Have you seen the Finding Your Fade shawl pattern? The pattern came out in December and there are already over 1,000 people making it, plus another 1,600+ who have it in their queue. It looks like such a simple pattern and the yarns will make it or break it. Every one I’ve seen has been beautiful – even the ones where I said . . Ughh! I wouldn’t use that yarn!
Since I’m trying desperately to use the stash, I’ve been digging. Here are the combinations I’m leaning towards.
This one isn’t terrible. I wish the center skein wasn’t so “in your face” light.
There’s that bright pink I keep trying to use and it keeps yelling “You’re a Granny!”.
I like the colors but I think the 5 middle skeins are way too light. Some of them need to be darker.
I am so determined not to buy yarn (even though most of my friends have already caved!), but I’m not sure any of these are perfect. I may keep digging or I may cave and buy yarn.
Half the fun is choosing yarn so I’ve actually be having fun digging through the tubs.

That one with the pink is beautiful.

If you like the pink, use it. I have never seen a rule that says Grannies can’t wear pink. I love pink, I have 12 grandchildren and I wear pink! Love it!

I like your top combo, but the pink is pretty too. I agree, there is no rule that Grannies can’t wear pink! (I’ve already caved on the yarn buying…one of our yarn stores is closing and she is having a big sale…)

I caved and I’m proud of it! 🙂 I wish my yarn would get here so I can start on it. I like #1 the best but then those are my favorite colors.

I caved too. There are much worse things I could be buying. I like #3.

You don’t have to use 7 skeins if you’re not feeling it. I’m knitting this with 4 skeins and fitting in the transitions where I see fit.

What if you took the two teal/green skeins of #3, and put them on the right side and moved the purplish one next to the darker variegated tannish one on the left? You really do have a nice variety of yarn to choose from 🙂

I always follow your links to see if the projects are ones that I might like to do. I’ve been wanting a shawl and wanting to use my sock stash and NOT wanting to make socks. I LOVE this shawl, so may get in on the KAL. I just started adding my yarn to my Ravelry stash and LOVE that it suggests yarn that I can use! So, thanks for blogging about this, I think! I love combo #1, if the light in the center bothers you, how about a darker gold there? Love #2, grannies can wear hot pink if they love it, they can do whatever they want! If the dark colors aren’t working on #3, what if you went to more medium versions of those shades instead of the dark? That might be interesting! Can’t wait to see what you choose!

Judy, I saw this post and immediately started digging through yarn stash. If you use the hot pink in position #1, it only takes 20 grams, so it won’t be too much. It also looks fabulous against your dark on the left. Just a thought. I bought the pattern but have several other projects to finish first and I’m definitely trying to resist buying yarn. That said, some of these amounts used are small enough, I’d still have leftover for a hat. 🙂 Can’t wait to see your final choice.
