Housekeeping is not my strong point. In fact, I’m not even sure I have a strong point! 🙂
I get so frustrated when the kitchen is a total mess. There’s always so much going on in there and then I stop to sit and knit and I’m all tuckered out. We’ve started having our main meal at lunch and that helps keep it more organized. Especially during the summer when I’m working so much outside, if we have a big dinner at 6, I usually get up from the table and go back outside to finish working and when I come in, I’m doing good to get the dishes in the dishwasher but not a whole lot else gets done.
Sunday morning, a jar ring from the top drawer fell out the back of the drawer and then the bottom drawer wouldn’t close all the way so I asked Vince to pull out the drawer and retrieve the ring and he decided that while he was in the kitchen, he would change out the ice maker that hasn’t been working right. Two screws! Won’t take any time.
He decided to take everything out of the freezer so he could get the drawer out and reach the ice maker better. What a mess! At least the freezer is now clean.
All that inspired me to clean and do some throwing out. The kitchen is small but I’ve seen smaller.
What bothers me most is that there’s one way in and it’s a trap. There’s not room for two adults and two dogs and if I’m in the kitchen, Speck and Rita are too. You never know when I might drop something. Then Vince comes in and there’s just not room. The above area is where I always work and I keep sliding things down towards the fridge til I have one little spot in which to work. I had been keeping the kombucha jars down near the fridge but I moved those to the countertop in the dining area.
This one little section is the only area that doesn’t have upper cabinets over it so that’s where I use the fryer, pressure cooker or slow cooker.
The fryer isn’t going to get used for a few days so it’s put away and the whole area is clean! Yay!
This side is over by the stove so that’s where I do most of the cooking work.
The only other part of the kitchen is this little piece next to the stove.
It’s all as clean as it’s going to get right now. I’d like to think I’ll keep it that way but I won’t.
Everything looked so inviting with the countertops clean, I retrieved some dried sourdough starter from the freezer and am reviving that and started a batch of English Muffins. Vince only works a few days this week and then I think he has to work a couple of partial days next week and he’s done til after January 1. That means big breakfasts and homemade English Muffins are a treat. I think I’ll make bagels too. Then, January 1 will arrive and we’ll be back on our diets.

Losing weight AND having a clean kitchen–there is no way that I can keep up with you now! And with Vince off of work for a few weeks, you two will be out and about so much that your kitchen will STAY clean!
