Actually, there’s a thorn in my foot and it’s been there for over three weeks. I managed to get part of it out. It was a big thorn so I thought the problem was solved but there must be more so, at some point this morning, I’m going to the walk in clinic to see if they can dig it out. I’m waiting on a delivery for Vince and as soon as it gets here, I’m headed to the clinic.
Vince has tried to dig it out, and squeeze it out, but I think his main goal was to cause me pain! 🙂
I thought it was a grass burr in the bedroom rug that I stepped on but what came out was way bigger than any part of a grass burr so I’m not sure what it was but it hurts. Whatever it was . . it was in the bedroom rug and I stepped on it barefooted. It should not be dangerous to walk in your own bedroom barefooted but one of us must have walked in there with shoes on and had the thorn or whatever it is stuck in our shoe and it came out in the rug and waited for me to step on it!
Do you feel sorry for me? I hope so. I am a wimp when it comes to pain and I’m not real sure what they’re going to do but I hope it doesn’t hurt too much! Did I say I’m a wimp?
I need to get blood work done anyway. I was hoping to lose a few more pounds but I’m going to run out of year before I get the weight off so I’ll go ahead and get the blood drawn today too. I’m anxious to see how that looks since I’ve lost the weight and been eating healthier foods and no Dr. Pepper.
Of course, I’ll let you know what happens with the thorn (assuming I survive!) and the blood work results but that will take a week or so.

Judy here are two things to try next time to remove thorn/ aka anything embedded. First the thin membrane in the top of egg. Yes that thin part. Put on thorn, sticker and let it dry( my grandmother did this even with glass). Will pull it out. If that doesn’t work the put super glue or white glue on it when it dries pull it off. May have to do more than once. Hope you get it out without anymore problems.

Thanks for those tips! I’ll try that next time. I’m thinking that since I got a pretty big thorn out already, there must have been a “barb” that stayed behind. None of it is sticking out at all . . it seems pretty much embedded.

Doesn’t have to be sticking out that the best part. Somehow it makes it come out. Don’t ask me how it works it was a grandmaw thing. And it always worked when I was little. I always went barefooted and still do so was always getting things in my feet. Always.

I do feel your pain and wish you well today.. I am a barefoot person so know how these things happen.

Oooo, that just sounds painful! I, too, am a huge wimp so feel your pain. Hopefully, whatever they do to get it out won’t be too painful. And I bet you’re going to REALLY like your blood work results!!
Joyce says
That sounds very painful! It also sounds like something that could happen to me since I go barefoot in the house frequently…
I hope they can get it out without any more pain for you.

Boil Ease salve will pull it out of your foot with no digging. Next time put some on a bandaid . I’m diabetic and was told never go barefoot. 80 or 90 % rate of saving my feet if I wore shoes or slippers. I used to always go barefoot even outside. It’s good that you are getting your foot checked. The egg and the glue sound like good tips. I hope I can remember them.

The egg will work and save a trip to the dr’s office if you didn’t need blood work.

I’m glad that you are getting it looked at–I worry about it getting infected. Maybe the Dr. will give you a lollipop if you are good! (Although, that’s probably not allowed on your new diet!)

I love reading the comments!! They are so often filled with things I didn’t know, or knew and forgot!! Thanks for reminding me of all the things I would have been smart to remember 🙂
I am diabetic to and have zero feeling in my feet!! Sometimes that is good. Like I wouldn’t feel the thorn, but bad because it should come out!! I unfortunately have not learned my lesson and I love to go barefoot. Fortunately where I live here in the great PNW socks are pretty much mandatory, Even though I don’t feel I think my feet must be cold??? So I wear socks in winter. Which makes my doc happy. Cross my fingers in summer, LOL.
Hope it all comes out all right!! Darn stickers!!

You could try a soap and sugar poultice, that will draw the splinter or thorn out and also any infection. Scrape some soap into shavings in the palm of your hand, add a half teaspooon or so of sugar and work into a creamy paste with a few drops of water. Spread over cotton wool and place over the wound, bandage and leave overnight. It really works and is quick and cheap, Vince should like that!

We always used bacon grease to pull stickers out. Put some on the spot and cover with a bandaid ot guaze. Something about the salt drawing it out.

I used to volunteer in the health room in the elementary school. Kids would get slivers, and because it’s technically an ‘operation’, we weren’t allowed to pull them. We had this stuff called Green Soap. I think it was antibacterial hand washing liquid of some kind. You dabbed some on the sliver, covered it with a band aid, and by the end of the kid’s class period the sliver would eject itself. I’m sure there’s a scientific explanation. I just know it worked!
Ouch to you Judy and I hope you get in some good knitting time!
