It seems that I spend more time planning (or maybe scheming) that I do knitting. The Gift Along 2016 on Ravelry begins at 7 p.m. tonight my time. They have a special category this year called Opadoo for “Gift-a-Long Superheroes”.
Before I get into my Opadoo challenge projects, if you’re a knitter and looking for a fun little bit of friendly competition, go over to the Gift-A-Long 2016 group on Ravelry and check it out. Even if you don’t want to be a Gift-A-Long superhero, it’s a cute little story behind it. There are prizes in every category so you could win something even if you don’t want to do all 8 things.
Of course I want to be a superhero and in order to do that, I have to knit something from all 8 categories and then it’s judged. The winner probably gets something . . I didn’t even read that far but I did make my list and I’ve checked it twice. The good news is everything will come from the stash!
Here’s what I plan to do, though it probably will not be in this order. I’m going to do some of the quicker things first so, if I don’t finish the big things, at least I will have something finished.
Hats & Head: Dear Hubbie – I’m going to use Brooklyn Tweed Arbor in Wreath leftover from the last shawl I finished. This will probably be a gift for Vince.
Hands & Arms: Passport Mitts. I’ll use the same Brooklyn Tweed Arbor if I have enough. If not, I have the Numma Numma Texas Toasty left over from my Staring at Stars Cardi.
Foot & Leg: Run Wild – I’ll use some fingering weight yarn I have here. These are going to be a gift for a friend, though I want some for me too.
Kids & Baby: Bluejay Vest for Addie. I think I’ll use Malabrigo Rios. I have several colors that will work – probably pink. Of course, a gift for Addie.
Sweater: Quickdraw. This one has also been in my queue since it first came out. I’m going to use Madelinetosh Chunky – probably Curiosity Robin Red Breast, but I have lots of colors I can choose from. I’m breaking the gift rules here because this is going to be gift for me.
Shawls & Stoles: Lilli Pilli. I’ve been wanting to make this for months and something else always bumped it. I was so excited to see Ambah O’Brien listed as a designer because I’ve wanted to make several of her patterns for so long. The yarn listed in my queue for this project is Hedgehog Skinny Singles in Damned Nation, Brambles and Copper Penny but I think when the yarn arrived, I wasn’t sold on Copper Penny and ordered another color. I’ll have to do some digging.
Cowls & Scarves: Vesper – this has been in my library since March, 2013. I’m going to use Wollemise Pure. Also a gift but I’m not saying who it’s for because she reads my blog.
Toys, Home & Other Miscellaneous Items: I plan to make Bubbly Scrubber and spa clothes to give as a set. The funny thing is that several months ago, Nicole’s mom sent me this weird little bag and asked me if I could make those. I wasn’t quite sure what it was but Nicole told me her mom called it a soap bag. When I saw the Bubbly Scrubber . . I knew what I was making for Nicole’s mom for Christmas! I have several Knit Picks cotton yarns and I’ll use some of that.
There’s a slim to none chance that I’ll get all this done between tonight and December 31 but . . you never know!

Thanks for the reminder. I was thinking last week that it should be starting soon and then forgot to check. I know what I’ll be doing tonight – going through all the patterns to see what I might want to make.

Wow. What a project, what a goal! Best of luck in finishing it all, every last thing!

Way too ambitious for me. I knit very slowly. Good luck to you.

If you go to Walmart and Home depot with Vince then knit in the truck you might get them done faster than you think. (lol)

I bow to your greatness if you can knit all that before Christmas. I felt tired just reading it all…but I do love all the patterns you have picked!

The deadline is actually December 31 but . . what’s another week? I seriously doubt I get it all done but it will be fun to try. I hope to knock out several small projects first and then tackle the larger ones.

Wow. I couldn’t even do one of any of those!! You are AWESOME! I was bragging on you and all you do today! Were your ears burning? 🙂

I have only knitted a couple of items, so this list terrifies me. Since I have a room full of fabric I don’t think I will take knitting up anytime soon. I will keep buying my knitted sweaters and socks.
