This wasn’t the week I had hoped for! Thursday night we had dinner at the Country Club. The food there is either not so good or amazing. I was hoping it was a not so good night but it was an amazing night. Dessert comes with dinner and I was prepared to skip. It was carrot cake and normally I don’t like carrot cake but I thought . . I’ll just taste the icing. I ate the whole thing . . even the raisins which I normally pick out and don’t touch! I had a Dr. Pepper. I had a Bloody Mary (two, in fact). I gained almost 3 pounds with ONE dinner!
Friday night we had another dinner that we had to attend. I did good though. Nothing but water to drink and a salad. I skipped the main meal which was pasta.
For the week, I ended up gaining 1.2 pounds. Those weeks will happen . . I just hope it doesn’t happen again for a very long time but . . Thanksgiving is coming. Oh, how I’m wanting a slice of pumpkin pie but if I make a whole pumpkin pie, you know what will happen. I think I’ll come up with something I can make with my home grown pumpkin – something a little sweet but not as sweet as pumpkin pie and with no crust and no whipped cream.
Ughh . . dieting during the holidays is not fun.

16 pounds lost is awesome.

What about a crustless pumpkin pie. That would save some fat and calories and cut down a little on the sugar. It would be more like pumpkin custard. Or just make a smaller pie like a store bought chicken pot pie size. After all it’s Thanksgiving! lol

I was looking at recipes on a pressure cooking site and found one for carrot cake oatmeal

I finally remembered to buy some carrots but forgot the pumpkin pie spice, but I have plenty of spices to create my own. So, it’s going to be breakfast tomorrow morning. I splurged last trip to the store and bought some pumpkin pie creamer, so that will be my “icing”. A little bit should go a long way.
Keep on going – you should be able to splurge every now and then. Just get back on the process the next day.

Judy- just get the mini pie pans, and make yourself a batch of filling and freeze all but one of the mini pies. Or bake one pie, take it to the neighbors to share and leave the excess with them. That way you get what you are craving without having so much of it around to tempt you.

Judy! Stop beating yourself up! Those are incredible weight loss figures for a woman. You know that weight loss won’t be as dramatic as it was those first weeks. Stay the course. You are doing great and inspiring us in the process!
Karen Sutton says
You’re doing great! Just take it one day at a time.

I find that I can cut way down on the sugar in pumpkin pie if I have a bit of whipped cream with it. And I’m sure there are fewer calories in the whipped cream. We discovered this when my MIL forgot to put any sugar in the pumpkin pie a few years ago!

Pumpkin pudding is good too. You could put a little crumbled graham cracker in the bottom of (some) of the bowls for some faux crust. I don’t think it has as much sugar as a pie and a tiny bit of graham cracker isn’t as calorie laden as crust is.

Judy, you are doing great! I still enjoy all sorts of food, but only eat small portions instead of the whole thing. Now, I always eat half a sandwich, half a piece of toast, 1 cup of pasta, etc, That way I’m not denying myself anything, also after I eat foods, like carrot cake, or something I don’t normally have, I up the exercise routine to get the metabolism going so it will burn the extra calories off. Walking longer or using my exercycle just a bit longer the next day. This seems to help. I sit way too much, sewing and at the computer. That’s my downfall. Not so much the food, it’s the lack of consistent exercise.

Hi Judy
Do you feel any different from 5 weeks ago? I know you’ve cut out the Dr. Pepper and other sugars from your diet. Plus at a 16 pound weight loss that should be one size in clothing. You have encouraged me to take a look at what I’m eating. After 40+ years of marriage, guess what – I’m about 40 lbs over what I should be. Oops. I’ve got some work to do. Good luck.

We have gluten free family members so we make the pumpkin pie filling as normal then we spray a pan with cooking spray. (an extra amount of it) then we sprinkle it with an extra amount of flour. Pour the pie filling over the top. I makes a bit of a filmy layer on the bottom. We use gluten free flour but regular flour works just as good.

pumpkin pudding?
or make some pumpkin pie bites and freeze the majority and then you can serve them when you have company
