Another week has flown by! Before I get into how it went for me, Vince has met the first goal. He has lost 25 pounds in 4 weeks. That’s amazing and I’m so proud of him. This morning we were talking about how we’ve enjoyed the past 4 weeks. We’ve watched dozens of healthy eating/exercise/brain activity videos/documentaries. Last night he was eating an apple and commented on how sweet it tastes now that we’ve been off sugar. The same thing happened to me when I was eating a pod of raw okra. Never have I thought okra tasted sweet but after not having sugar, or having very little sugar, even okra tastes sweet. Vince said “I’m betting if you had a Dr. Pepper, you wouldn’t even like it!” I’m betting that’s an incorrect statement.
This week has been another lose .4 one day and gain .2 the next day kind of week. I know that I feel better if I skip dinner. Before you tell me that slows down your metabolism and isn’t healthy, there are studies now that say otherwise. I have no idea what to believe. All I know is that I feel better and lose better if I have a healthy portion of good food for lunch and about 3:00 I have an apple or a pear – something crunchy, a bit sweet and filling. For breakfast, I have eggs, sausage and a seemingly minute portion of bread – something as healthy as I can have as far as bread goes, but still something I like. I sent the German Seeded Bread recipe to our health coach and asked if she thought it was ok to have one slice of that at breakfast and here’s her response:
I think it’s fine for you to keep that piece of toast in the mornings. Especially, your homemade bread! You are filling it with lots of nutritional aspects!
Yesterday, not only did I have a slice at lunch but my “snack” last night instead of dinner was a thin slice with pimento and cheese. I kinda dreaded getting on the scale this morning but I actually lost more than I had in a single day for the past 10 days! Those seeds really get things moving . . if you know what I mean. 🙂
This week, I ended up cooking dinner several nights for Vince and I would end up eating so I think this coming week, I’m going to make extra at lunch and he can have that for dinner . . maybe the next night so he isn’t eating the same things twice in one day. Some days he will eat tuna salad with tomatoes, celery, and an apple for dinner. Some nights he will eat sardines, crackers and cheese. But I really feel better – I sleep better, I’m not reaching for antacids half the night and I feel more energetic in the evenings and in the mornings when I skip dinner so . . that’s my plan for the coming week.
We’re checking our blood sugar every Friday and that’s been interesting.
Week 1: Lost 9.2 pounds
Week 2: Lost 4.6 pounds (13.8 total to date)
Week 3: Lost 1.8 pounds (15.6 pounds to date)
Week 4: Lost 1.6 pounds (17.2 pounds to date)
We have 8 weeks til the end of the year. Hard to believe, huh? If I can lose 1.5 pounds each week, that’s 12 pounds and if I can lose 12.8 pounds, that will be 30 pounds down by the end of the year. That would make me tremendously happy to hit that 30 pound mark before 2017 arrives. That won’t be the end of the diet though. There’s more to lose!

Congrats on your weight loss.
One point you made about antacids at night….. have you heard of silent GERD? My only symptom was hoarseness for about a month. The doctor suggested getting the OTC Prilosec at 20 mg. No improvement for 3 days. I doubled the dose to 40mg and I regained my voice. I got a script for the generic form which is far cheaper than the OTC prices.
Some of the causes for silent GERD include eating late at night and then laying down to watch TV or go to bed, eating certain foods, and drinking carbonated beverages. I had just gotten my Soda Stream and was putting a bottle of plain club soda at my bedside – so that was a double no-no of drinking carbonation during the night and then going back to sleep.
I’ve changed foods, timing of meals and reduced carbonation and I am weaning myself off of the meds (with Dr’s. ok).
I know you are limiting your Dr. Pepper, but what about the kombucha and when you drink it? If you are not eating much in the evening but having a drink before bed, that could be the cause of the stomach ache. Take care!

Hi ….Love your site and check it each morning with a cup of tea. You have commented a couple of times about you German Seeded Bread and I checked your recipe listings and did a general search on your site but can not find a recipe. Can you help out with that?

Good going! And how great that you can taste natural sugars better. Maybe you will become so accustomed to that level, you really won’t crave added sugar, even when this plan is over. Except Dr. Pepper.
Knowing you and Vince like to buy things on sale, I’m wondering how many DPs you have waiting for you.
