Some of you seem to think Boots never sees a human. I am in the sewing room at least 6 hours per day, often 2 or 3 hours in the morning, then 2 or 3 hours in the afternoon, and sometimes even well after dark. My big computer is in the sewing room (where I am now writing this) and I do all of my blogging, meal planning, recipe searches, etc. on the big computer. Boots probably spends more time with me, and Vince often goes over in the afternoon to play with him .. than a lot of people spend with their own children so please don’t judge me if you don’t know all the facts.
And to say it’s cruel to leave him in there .. he came here as a stray kitten, hungry and scared. We had him neutered, keep him up to date on his vaccines, flea and heartworm meds, and he always has fresh food and water, as well as an air conditioned/heated room with huge window sills where he sits and watches critters outside. I guess we all differ on the meaning of cruel but I don’t see him as being treated in a cruel manner.
Thanks to the reader who commented about the Furminator. I have ordered one and it should be here Friday.

Some people don’t know when to mind their own business. Boots is the King in his place, and is obviously happy and healthy. Don’t let those folks steal your happy.

People are different and enjoy different lives. If we don’t live in your shoes we have no right to criticize. I would be happy to be any pet in your home. I was adopted by a barn cat who was born and lived outside. It took us most of his first winter with the front door open so he didn’t freak out. He lives on my enclosed and heated porch as I am allergic to cats. This is his kingdom and he loves me and I love him. He spends most nights outside as he likes to and I have given up trying to keep him in. He also expects no demands his catnip treats around dusk every night before going out. He also follows me around my yard and neighborhood like a little big boned fluffy lamb. No apologies or excuses, this is our life and we love it!!

Boots knows he’s loved (as do Speck, Rita and even Cat, lol). I remember when Boots first showed up and how much of a kitten he was getting into the batting, your knitting (when you were knitting). He was a WONDERFUL helper, LOL.
Sadly, people make assumptions without knowing all the facts – we are fortunate to see a glimpse of your life and I, for one, appreciate you sharing bits of your life with us.

Sometimes you just have to tell folks to mind their own business! Amazes me how there are millions of blogs out there and rather than find a blog where you agree with everything a person does ( how boring) some people just want to criticize good people. Makes me think something must be missing in their life!! When I die I want to come back as Boots and live at your house. I’ll even promise to stay out of the knitting!

I just heard a radio news story on the differences between cats and dogs and what makes them “happy.” For dogs, it’s the comfort and safety of being around people they love, but they don’t really get attached to a place. For cats, it’s the comfort and safety of being in the place that they love. Attachment to place is much more important to cats. The sewing room seems perfect for Boots because you come to him and give him just the right amount (it seems) of company in the place where he is happy and comfortable.

You spend more time with Boots than many folks do with their kids. I have rescued many cats and dogs over the years, and I can say without a doubt that I would not hesitate to recommend as adopters someone who cared for her critters like you and Vince do.
I can vouch for the furminator. We have a golden retriever, and it has really cut down on his in-house shedding, plus his skin infections.

I think it’s cruel to own a cat and let it roam around, being in danger of getting run over or attacked by dogs, snakes and who knows what else. You’ve said before that Boots likes a bit of attention and then goes off and sits in his windowsill, quite happy. Most cats enjoy their own company and don’t need to be entertained all the time. People shouldn’t attribute human emotions and thoughts to animals…”He must be lonely he must be bored…” because they don’t react the way a human does.(Especially when you spend hours with him every day anyway) He’s one well-looked after cat, and I bet he’s happy.

Oh Judy, I feel bad that some fool had to make a nasty remark. I love your blog. You have advised me many times regarding my pressure canner. I had shown your blog to my hubby this morning as Boots is such a beautiful cat and he was close to the monitor for me to share with him. It is YOUR life, blog and chitchat with your friends. Please don’t stop or change. Heartfelt sympathy for hurt caused by strangers.

I introduce the terminator slowly and gently. My GSD loves it where her fur is think….but not so much where the fur is thinner….also no matter what the ads say it can get caught and tangled and pull. Our terrier hates it because there are only a couple of places where his fur is thick enough. We bought one of those mitts and the terrier tolerates that better and the GSD likes it too. So we use the mitt almost daily and the terminator in between

I’m sure that the number of hours you spend in the sewing room is plenty for Boots. Cats sleep a LOT! Good luck with the Furminator. Since you already brush him, he should tolerate it pretty well. I remember how proud I was of myself for teaching my long-haired cat to enjoy brushing! He would come across the room when I picked up the brush! Never had a Furminator, though.
That’s interesting what Robin said about attachment to places. I know that cats like their routine, and don’t like change!

I’m home most of the day and barely see my cat. She sleeps most of the day, usually on MY bed! You do fine by Boots. He seems like a healthy, happy cat to me. Btw, my Jinx is a tuxedo cat, too.

After many decades of cats, I agree with another commenter who said that cats attach to a place as apposed to a dog who would attach to a person. Cats are happy for attention only when they want it and don’t need constant human interaction for their happiness. If they are happy in their chosen place then all is good for them and any cat lover would know this so don’t pay any attention to any negative nellies ?
