We have had so many bluebirds in the bird bath lately. These pictures were all taken through the window so they’re quite blurry.
They get to splashing around and it doesn’t take long before there’s no water left in the bird bath. I guess that’s my job . . make sure the bird bath stays full.
We see quite a few cardinals too . . as well as lots of little birds that I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to as far as what kind of birds they are.
But the other day I looked out and there was this big bird in there and it looked so out of place.
I always take pictures before I get too close so you see the blind slats there. I figure a really bad picture is better than no picture at all.
He stayed there for a good while. It just looked so funny to see a bird this size in the bird bath but I guess even big birds need a bath sometimes. At first I thought it was a small hawk since they’ve been hanging around aggravating my chickens, but it wasn’t a hawk.
Even though this picture is blurry, I thought it was neat catching the one bird flying off.
I don’t remember having so many bluebirds this time of year but maybe we have.

So you never figured out what the big bird was? I keep a pair of binos handy just in case. Wonder if it was an owl?

Maybe it was a dove??????
JudyL says
No, we have lots of doves and that isn’t a dove.

Looks like they’re having fun.

Judging purely from that big black mark, my guess is Northern Flicker. They’re a type of woodpecker, but they feed mostly on the ground. (And my feeders.) I like having them around my place. Picture is a bit blurry, though. So it’s just a guess.

I have been feeding peanuts to a squirrel this summer but I guess he found someone else with a better variety of food so now I have a pair of Woodpeckers that come and get the peanuts! I thought they only pecked in wood to find bugs but Google informed me they like nuts and berries too.
