For those who asked about our sleep tracking device, we use Jawbone. When we initially wanted a fitness tracker several years ago, Vince researched them and decided on Jawbone. At that time, we bought the Jawbone 24 but have upgraded to the Jawbone UP3. Vince buys them when they’re on sale (yes, we have backups) and he pays about $30 y pocket because I take the band off when I’m in the kitchen working and half the time, I forget to put it back on. The pedometer and the band seem to be pretty accurate insofar as counting steps because for the time I have both of them on me, the numbers are usually the same.
Vince didn’t do additional research before ordering the newer Jawbones but back when he did research the various fitness trackers, Jawbone rated the best as far as sleep tracking and that’s one of the things that mattered to us.
Speaking of tracking, look at last night and the night before’s record. Almost exactly the same. When I looked at the record from last night, I thought it was the night before instead of last night. Weird. Vince wakes up 3 to 5 times per night and I never wake up.
I’m trying to get more sleep but . . I’m pretty happy with a bit over 6 hours of sleep.
I go to sleep almost the minute I get in bed, even though I try to read for a few minutes . . I never read more than a few pages, and I wake up without an alarm. I should go to bed earlier but I think that just means I wake up earlier.

What is the percentage at the bottom?

It gives you a recommended number of hours to sleep each night – maybe 8 hours, and that’s the percentage of the recommended sleep time that I actually slept.

I don’t own any tracking devices. Other than curiosity, is there a purpose for tracking sleep habits?
Judy says
Like most everything else, there’s a wealth of info out there if you google “benefits of tracking sleep” or something like that. You can certainly live a good life without one! 🙂 Sleep habits affect your overall health, as well as have a bearing on weight loss/gain. There are things you can do to improve your sleep but you first have to know if there is something that needs improving. I would swear I get 100% REM sleep but when you look at my tracking, I’m getting very little REM sleep. Often, I will feel tired and think I had a good night’s sleep but when I look at my tracking, I had a pretty restless night. I think the more we know about everything that affects our body, the better control we will have over our overall health . . especially as we age.
