Rita is not a snuggler. I’m not sure if it’s the breed, the personality or the history but she immediately begins to squirm when you pick her up. She will about wiggle out of your arms if you try to snuggle with her.
Old Speck has always been a snuggler. He had to be on someone’s lap. Here’s an old picture from MO when he was sitting with Vince.

Rita once got in my chair and that was when Speck was still able to jump up there too. He didn’t like her being up here and he snapped at her. For probably a year, she never would get in the chair with me but within the past month or so, she’s been jumping up when I’m sitting down, letting me pet her for probably 10 seconds, always keeping an eye on Speck, and then she jumps down. I think she’s figured out that he can no longer get in the chair.

You can see she isn’t snuggling but she’s sitting there with me. She stayed about an hour. I had things to do but it was so nice seeing her feeling comfortable sitting with me that I didn’t dare move. I had my knitting so I sat as long as she wanted to sit. Hopefully she’ll continue to do this. I love being able to pet her and show her that we love her but it’s all on her terms .. can’t make her want to be close.

My terrier mix is not a cuddler either. Disappointing! But I read an article recently that stated many dogs do not like being held or cuddled – has to do with feeling trapped and not in control. So I no longer try to make him cuddle. If it is cold he will sometimes cuddle – for a scant few minutes!

Rita looks and acts a lot different than when you found her (or she found you). Pretty contented!!! That is a good thing 🙂
One of my older dogs is taking fall hard. He is totally spoiled. I try to hold him a lot. He sleeps a lot. He would just lie down wherever he was and sleep. It’s starting to get cold here and the floor cant be good for his old bones. He has a bed in the bedroom but nothing in the living/great room I was at Costco yesterday and picked one of their thick memory foam bath mats. I got a gray one, pretty neutral. He gets it!! He now finds it and curls up. Then I cover him with his blanket.
Our doggies are sure wonderful companions. It’s so easy to spoil them!!

I love that pic of Speck and Vince! So cute! I Love how Vince has the computer up on his stomach so Speck can sit there too.
