Today has been THAT day — I felt like I hit bottom. Vince and I were just talking and he said “Do you feel bad?” and I said no . I think I need a Dr. Pepper. He said “Have one – if that gets you perked up and energized . . do it!” but after not having them for over a week, I’m afraid one this late would keep me awake. Last time I stopped drinking them and had one about this time, it was way late before I fell asleep.
This morning I calculated all the protein I’d be getting and I had all I needed so it isn’t that. Truly I think my body has just had enough of functioning without a load of caffeine and sugar.
I did lose another pound yesterday so I’ve lost a total of 8. According to the diet folks, 5 more and I will have reached my goal . . NOT!
For breakfast I had one egg and half a bagel – another top half. Vince is either going to have to come to my rescue and eat the bottom halves or I’m going to have to start on them Thursday. That will be sad if I have to eat the bottom half of a bagel!
For lunch, I had tuna salad with okara, lemon juice, a bit of mayo and some seasonings and it was served on lettuce with carrot sticks, tomatoes and the homemade honey mustard vinaigrette.
Dinner was whatever we could find – a bit of hummus and crackers for me, along with a few cucumber sticks and more carrots.
Vince and I went to the park and walked and according to my Jawbone, I got in 5,542 steps so far. I’ll make it to the suggested 7,500 by the time I go out and do all my evening chores.
Tomorrow’s a new day! I’ll perk up and be happy somehow.

You might be getting enough protein, but it doesn’t look like you are getting enough calories. That can make you feel bad. You might want to up your calories a bit, maybe with some carbs like fruit, whole grains. That might give you a bit more energy. I love bagels, but they’re pretty high calorie compared to bread and I would rather get more bang for my buck, so to speak. You might want to have a slice of toast with your egg or an English muffin instead. You’re doing great, but restricting too much makes it harder to stick with and you want to be in this for the long term! Keep up the good work!!

I’m fine on the calories too. I ate a banana with almond butter for a snack and I ate an orange, plus the bagel counted toward my calories. I’ staying between 1,300 and 1,500 calories per day.

Way to go! It takes a lot of will power to turn down favorite food, so good job. Hopefully tomorrow is less rotten.

Hang in there. Your body has to get used to the new regimen.

8 pounds, nice! You are probably right. Caffeine is still addictive and you are breaking a big addiction, so you probably hit a low point with that. After a while, you probably won’t notice, though. I rarely have anything with caffeine, and haven’t for years, so I never miss it. You’ve been having a lot for a long time. It’s a big adjustment! Keep looking at those numbers – 8 pounds is a lot to lose! You can keep going and meet your goals. That walking is helping, I know.

With all your activities (steps) You actually sould not ever eat less than 1500 calories in a day and more close to 1800. You are putting your body into starvation mode and this way you will not loose weight over the long term. Or keep it off when it is gone. Or learn a new healthy way to eat. Listen to your health care person who says 1 to 2 lbs a week. Or you will either get ill or fail this diet.
JudyL says
I disagree. I know that 1-2 pounds per week is the norm but for someone who’s given up as much soda as I was drinking, I think the first week results would be more than 1 – 2 pounds. After a couple of weeks, I fully expect to fall within the 1 – 2 pounds per week average. Everything I’ve read says 1200 to 1500 calories per day to lose weight for someone my size.

Maybe you need to drink more water. When I’m dragging, drinking
water perks me up..
JudyL says
I will try that. I’ve never drank much water because I was always sucking down Dr. Peppers but this week, I’ve been drinking so much water . . but maybe still not enough. Yesterday when I went to town, I even came back home before getting all the way down the driveway . . because I forgot my water and didn’t want to go without it. Today I will drink more!

How about coffee or tea for the caffeine? You can sweeten with stevia.

Yes, but drink no more than 16oz water per HOUR so you don’t make your kidneys “drunk” by throwing your electrolytes out of chemical balance — hyponatremia. (A very dangerous or deadly situation)
If exercising and sweating, may need an electrolyte beverage like Gatorade…
