Seriously . . how do I get my dear husband to understand that I detest shopping? I don’t want to go shopping for anything . . not even yarn! I don’t mind (obviously) shopping online but walking up and down the aisles, looking at thins I don’t need . . I do not want to do it. He loves it. That’s fine. I don’t mind if he goes without me. He won’t!
My new strategy is to act like I’m going to spend lots of money and just to keep him on his toes, some time, I might just buy a big item . . maybe then he’ll leave me at home.
Vince took off Friday and Tuesday . . which means I still have three days of shopping! Thursday when he was home for lunch, I said “Let’s make a list of everything we need and this evening, let’s go out, get what we need, grab a Taco salad and not have to leave home again this weekend.” Thursday evening we went out and I thought we got everything we needed. Who believes that trick worked?
Friday morning he said “Do you want to go to Brady?” Oh, I was hoping you would ask! NOT! I figured . . he works hard, he’s on vacation today . . I’ll go to Brady. Where do you think we went besides eating? Tractor Supply and Walmart. Couldn’t we have done that without leaving town?
This morning (Saturday), he said . . I need to go to Home Depot for an o-ring. What? Order it from Amazon and it will be here by Wednesday, maybe Tuesday! No . . we had to go to Home Depot. Before we left, I said “Where all are we going?” Home Depot and United (groceries). We just went there Thursday but . . ok . . I’ll go again. We were on our way to town and he said “Do you mind if we go to the hardware store?” No . . but I would have brought my knitting and sat in the car if I knew you wanted to go there. I didn’t say that . . I just said “No, I don’t mind!”
So, we went to the hardware store and I sat in the car. I’m betting they had o-rings there but he stayed in for a while and came out with nothing. Next, was Home Depot. Here’s where I put my new plan into action. They have some really cool shed type buildings that you can fix up to live in. I said “Let’s look at those! I think we could fix one of those up for an outdoor kitchen.” OK . . he didn’t mind . . he was shopping! I really did like the 12′ x 12′ and I think it would work for an outdoor kitchen. We were standing in it and I was saying . . we can use the sink that we took out of the kitchen and I don’t want cabinets . . I just want open shelves. I want something cushiony on the floors that’s good for standing. I’ll be doing all my canning out here. Let’s go in and look at stoves!” He said “Stove?” Yes . . just a gas cooktop with burners big enough for the canners. So we went in and looked at stoves. They didn’t have any cooktops so we had to get someone to show us those online. Then we had to go look at air conditioners and countertop for the area in which I’d be working. I would want a chair and a little side table so I could sit and knit while the canner was doing it’s thing. Oh, we’ll need another propane tank right by the outdoor kitchen because I’ll need hot water and gas for the stove.
Do you think all that deterred him? Nope . . not one bit. He found his o-ring and some charcoal that was on sale and then we were off to United but first, he remembered he needed to go to Walmart. OMG! The first of the month (or almost), a holiday weekend and Saturday . . Walmart. Has the man lost his mind? We went to Walmart. Potting soil. I can always use potting soil and it’s fairly inexpensive and it will fill up the car fast and we can go home.
We left Walmart and went to United. Cokes were on sale (and so were Dr. Pepper) and he wanted Cokes. Got what we needed and a few other things and left there.
By the time we left, the car was getting pretty full.
But he said . . there’s more room in the car. Do you want to stop at Kroger? NO! Take me home! And . . he did! 🙂
Vince would do anything I asked him to do. Sometimes it takes a while, sometimes it takes a little prodding. I will cook for him. I will sew for him. I will knit for him. I will do most anything he asks but please . . I do not want to go shopping!!

What fun. My DH used to be like that, but retirement and no income put a stop to it. I too don’t like to go shopping EVEN when I NEED to go. It’s all the traffic, finding parking places and waiting in long lines that eat up too much of my valuable time that I could be doing some fun things at home.

What’s up with all the blue buckets?

You’ve been married a long time. If he hasn’t gotten it by now, I don’t think he’s going to. =) I’m thinking any time you get in the car with Vince, you take your knitting with you. =) Maybe use the time to knit for charity projects – see how many you get done. LOL

Maybe you can have a knitting project you just do in the car. Then you both would have something to show for your time. Forget the outside room unless you really need it as it’s just more shopping now to get it ready and late to keep it supplied. Maybe you could get him interested in shopping online and do a comparison to see if he saves time and gas by shopping from home. I hate shopping so I’d pay someone to shop for me if I could afford it.

Wait!!! I thought the 12×12 building was so I could move out there!! Just so you know, we have to go back to Lowe’s or Home Depot this weekend. So if I’m going out you have to go too!! Lol

I have learned to always bring an “occupier” with me. I bind a lot of quilts in the car.
