I have made one pair of socks for Vince, along with the one giant sock I showed the other day. Vince has never worn the pair of socks I made for him and I made them in 2007. I know that because I showed them in this blog post. Apparently, they were going to be part of his Christmas gift in 2007 and I didn’t get them finished until a couple of days after Christmas.
They’re very nice socks and they seemed to fit nicely. But, he has never worn them. Every now and then, he will say “You’ve made hundreds of pairs of socks for yourself but you never make me socks!” I’ll remind him that I made him a pair and he never wore them. He’ll usually mention the giant sock and then he’ll say something like . . yes, ONE pair.
My feeling is this: If I make you one pair of socks or one of anything and you don’t wear it ever . . not even once . . I’m not making you another pair! Every now and then he’ll say he doesn’t want to wear them out. Again, why make another pair that you don’t want to wear out?
But . . today, his excuse was “It’s too hot!”
We’ve lived through this in Texas:
Of course, there was lots of snow in Missouri!
And who could forget this Christmas Day incident? No one . . because I re-post or link to it at least twice a year!
This was our back deck in MO after a bit of snow. Notice the table and chairs are buried!
Surely warm, wool socks made with love would have been nice on this day!
So, my dear Vince, do not give me any more excuses as to why you have not worn your socks! If in the past NINE years you have not found a day that was cold enough to wear your socks, chances are . . it ain’t gonna happen! And do not expect another pair until you wear the ones you already have! That’s just how it works around here.
The good news is . . I wear my socks, spring, summer, fall and winter so I can make more for myself! 🙂

Amen! Use it up, wear it out, make do and do without. If he isn’t grateful for what he was given why give more. MY husband had to be taught this lesson also. I now just ignore his whining.

Ah, the knitter’s version of ‘use it or lose it’! I told my dh the same thing, you get one chance and if you don’t wear it your window of opportunity is CLOSED! I’ve seen the hat I made him, sitting on the closet shelf, in pristine condition. 🙁

My hubby often will not wear things given to him for Christmas. He has socks, slippers, and pajamas that have never been worn. I am considering wrapping some of them up for his next Christmas gifts. LOL

I bet this is one of those times that Vince wishes you didn’t blog…and have such good records. Funny!

Judy I totally agree!! I stopped making things for people when they just put them in a drawer to save them!! I hang up or use the things people give me, always. So you are right on target!!

My mom basically put all her nice things away and didn’t use them. I think growing up during the depression had a lot to do with it. The quilt I made her is on my guest bed now, but I like to think she’s glad it’s in use now.
