Finally, today is the big day! The day I’ve been waiting for! Knit Companion for Android is now available. I suppose I could knit without this program but I surely wouldn’t want to do it. There’s so much in the app that makes following patterns so much easier. I loved it for IOS and I’ve waited and waited for the Android version to be released and today, it is being released.
JUST FOR THIS WEEKEND – you can get 30% off! If you go to the Google Play store to get it, type in “KnitCompanion” (without a space) and it will come right up.
I’ve had a beta version for a few days and while the Android version doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that the IOS version has, the Android version has some extra features; new features, different features. Also, more features will be added as time permits. The brilliant lady who came up with Knit Companion pretty much works alone, with maybe one part-time helper so even though the wheels turn a bit more slowly than I’d sometimes like, I understand.
I’ve been knitting one pattern on the IOS version and another pattern on the Android version and for the newest pattern, I reached for the Android.
While many of you love Apple devices, and I don’t dislike Apple, but I like Android better. Other than having the iPad mini purely for Knit Companion, we have no IOS devices that we still use. Android phones, big tablets, little tablets. I’m not saying we’ll never go back to IOS but for now, we’re hooked on Android.
It works on the phone, as does the IOS version on iPhones, as well as any Android device that runs Android 4.4 or higher, and one of the new (or at least new to me) features that I love is that I can download patterns directly from my Ravelry library. It truly is an amazing program but remember, anything harder than turning a device on and off seems hard to me.
I believe you can get a 7 day free trial with the new Android Knit Companion so if you’re an Android lover and a knitter, you really should give it a try. Remember, there’s a learning curve and at first, you may not feel it’s something you can live without but give it a shot and see if you don’t love it.
There’s a Knit Companion Ravelry group where questions are answered promptly either by the creator of the program or by expert users. There’s always someone there sharing knowledge.
Don’t forget . . the 30% off is only good through the weekend!

I’m sure it’s a great app, but in order to find out how much it costs, one must first INSTALL it on their phone? I would never do that, never.

I see it often. What you’re downloading is a free version that has limitations. You can use that as long as you’d like . . as a free version but if you want it to do more, then you buy the subscription. In most apps, as in the KC app, it says “in app purchase” or something like that.

Won’t download on my fire or my Samsung phone….both androids. And I agree, I would like to see the price before I download ….if I could…the free part

The Fire isn’t true Android so it will not work with a Fire. If your phone is Android 4.4 or higher, it should work. You must go through Google Play, which I don’t think even comes up on the Fire so be sure you’re starting out by clicking on Google Play, then search for “KnitCompanion” and it should work fine on an Android 4.4 or higher phone.

I almost bought an Ipad so I could run this app! I downloaded it as soon as I read your blog Thanks so much Judy! For those who don’t wish to pay before knowing the price, you do get 7 days before your card is charged to try it. For me the cost was $6.99 and that price is per year so that improvements can continue to be made. I love it! I am going to load a cross stitch chart today. I see no reason that won’t work as well since they are pdf files as well. I also was able to download one of my Ravely files and it was so easy!! I love this app and even at 2x the amount it would be worth it I have had a hard time keeping a chart close enough for my poor eyesight, and this does the trick when I couple it with my tablet holder. It is on a swing arm (like a swing arm lamp) and puts it right where I need it. BTW, no association with either, just so so happy!
