Last night I finished my Staring at Stars cardigan.
It isn’t blocked yet in the photo. Don’t ask me why my bind off looks like picot. I think I do the Super Stretchy Bind Off wrong but I like how it looks so I don’t try to correct it.
I love this pattern for so many reasons:
- It’s mega easy! I was able to knit while sitting in the park with Addie. I was able to knit while chatting at our knit group. It’s easy . . trust me.
- It has 3/4 length sleeves. I love that length because I don’t like having anything around my wrists.
- DK weight yarn is great for Texas on those two days each year when we have cold weather.
- The pattern is well written and the sizing seems just right!
The yarn is Numma Numma TEXAS Toasty and I really like it but I am a huge fan of DK weight yarn. The color is Blue Corn Masa. Remember when I grew blue corn last year? It’s a pretty close match! I bought that yarn about the time I was harvesting my blue corn.
You know how determined I’ve been not to buy yarn .. you do know, right? I stayed away from Eat, Sleep, Knit because I knew once I succumbed to the magic of the Yarnathon badges and Knit Alongs, I was a goner and yep, I’m a goner. I only have two favorite yarn shops and ESK is one of them. They have really outdone themselves with the Yarnathon badges and KALs this year and last year and this year is better than last year because we don’t have to do every single item to “win”.
At the beginning of 2016, when I promised myself to stop buying yarn til I’d made a good dent in my stash, I knew that staying away from the yarn shops’ websites was a must and I did good til I didn’t do so good! What happened? Where did I go wrong? How did I lose my resolve?
First, I looked at all those fun badges and prizes and realized that without even buying yarn, I could use my stash yarn and get quite a few badges so I took the bait and began hanging out on the website and on the Ravelry group and . . well, you know what happens next. Folks show their projects and I want the yarn they used! ESK gets in new yarn and they talk about it and show pictures and I want that yarn too! Really, it’s the fault of those folks showing their projects and it’s the fault of ESK for showing new yarn. Otherwise, I wouldn’t order anything. That’s my story!
Second, I got this as part of an email from them:
Where have you been all year, my little JudyL??
How can you resist that? They’ve missed me. They love me! They’re concerned that there’s still a few pennies in my 401K account. I told Vince . . I feel so special! He said “No, it’s MY (his) credit card they love!” He ruins everything for me! 🙂
Anyway, the good news is that except for a couple, all the badges I’ve earned that required making something . . I’ve done it with stash yarn. The bad news is . . I’ve added more yarn than I intended to add but . . there’s always next year, right? Oh . . what’s that you’re saying? There will be another fun game to play next year? Darn . . I cannot win this battle so why waste my time trying. Just send me one of everything! 🙂

But will 1 of everything be enough? haha.
I love your Staring at Stars cardigan! I agree on the sleeve length. My sleeves stay cleaner away from my busy busy hands.

Your definition of cold and mine must be extremely different!! LOL Because I know we have WAY more than two ‘cold’ days in Texas!! When I’m stoking my fire and turning on the space heater next to the couch daily, I’m FREEZING. I definitely need the long sleeves! HA This past winter wasn’t as bad as the one before though (but still too cold for me).

It’s all pretty much what you’re used to I suppose. In MO, the winters we were there were some of the snowiest winters they ever had. Having to go out and deal with the chickens when their water froze within an hour of putting it out, and tromping through 20+ inches of snow, the Texas winters are not cold to me. We’ve been here 5 winters now and I think we’ve had less than half a dozen fires in the fireplace and our propane guy swears we’ve switched to electric heat because we don’t use much propane but we just rarely use the heater. It takes a heck of a lot of cold for me to want a sweater and unless it’s raining and I wear a rain coat, there’s no need for a coat around here. I think that explains why I’m so miserable during the summer – I’m warm when others are cold and when most folks are comfortable, I’m roasting.

As I look at my craft room with the shelves overflowing with yarn I remember my promise to myself not to buy yarn but then I’m tempted by a limited new colorway or a sale and I forget my resolve. Oh dear.

That turned out great – love the color. I’m nearly ready to split for sleeves on mine.

Really like this sweater! The color is great and I too like the sleeves a little shorter.
