I’ve been home almost three days now. I’m almost rested up and I can talk about Addie now without wiping away tears. Goodness, I miss that girl and her parents.
One day I was going to try to get her down for a nap and I ready her a story. She was still pretty wired so I told her I’d sleep with her. I took my glasses off and stuck them under the pillow. She jumped up and said “DON’T PUT ANYTHING UNDER YOUR PILLOW!” I asked her why and she proceeded to tell me a 15 minute story about how the tooth fairy will take anything that you leave under your pillow. She told me the tooth fairy takes EVERYTHING!
Someone must have told her about the tooth fairy and how you put your tooth under your pillow and the tooth fairy takes it.
The rest of the story is that Addie has a Roku TV in her room and she lost the remote. The TV doesn’t work without the remote except Nicole got an app on her phone and she can use that to control the TV. Addie is 100% sure she put the remote under her pillow and the fairy took it.
When I started to leave, I grabbed my pillow and heard something rattling inside the pillowcase. There were little girl paint brushes in my pillowcase. I asked Addie if she put those in there. No . . it must have been the fairy!
I told Nicole it may be time to start talking about the difference in truth and make believe.
