Those who know me well know that sitting still is not something I do well. Even sitting in the car and driving . . it’s hard for me to sit and drive . . I want to stop at every place I see. I just want to get out of the car. I want to pull over at a rest stop and knit but, I also want to get home so I keep driving.
And then I notice something interesting.
After a little over five hours in the car, I noticed that it was 1:23 and wondered if I could catch 2:34.
Yep, what else is there to do besides watch the road and the clock.
And, I caught 3:45!
And by 4:56 I was almost home!
I even caught an interesting odometer reading. Nothing really worth talking about but 56,666. My 9-1/2 year old car has 56,666 miles on it. I wondered how long it will be before it has 60,000 miles. It all depends on how many trips to MO I make, but I’m betting it doesn’t happen before 2017.
When Vince and I were dating, he asked me if I was high maintenance and I told him no . . I only require three things:
- Indoor plumbing
- Good air conditioning
- Dependable vehicle
He’s about to get on thin ice with #2 and with the Highlander going on 10 years old, it’s about time to start thinking about a newer vehicle if I’m going to be making 10 hour trips by myself. I hate that our cars get old in years before they get many miles. There’s a whole lot of miles left in that Highlander but at some point, I’m not comfortable striking off on those 10 hour trips in a car that age. There’s another option . . move closer! We’ll see which he prefers . . move or new car! I’m betting his answer is neither!

Yikes! You were driving 63 mph while you took that 56666 picture! I hope it was a straight, deserted stretch of road. I put on about 5,500 miles a year so it doesn’t add up very quickly. I work full-time, but have only a 3 1/2 mile commute. I’m also like to play those numbers/time games. Good thing you got home when you did because there is no 5:67.

Yep, once I get off I-44, I have almost 4 hours of back roads with no traffic. I sometimes go miles and miles without seeing another vehicle and Texas roads are very good, with extra wide shoulders. I took that picture when I was slowing down for a turn. The speed limit on most of the Texas back roads, including on the road I love on is 75 mph.
I had already decided that if it got to 5:00, I’d just start catching it on the downhill side . . 5:43 and then 6:54 but I expected to be home just after 5.

My 2006 Highlander has 130,000. I am hoping it last even longer.. but I am not comfortable about long trips with it… and for no reason other than cars never used to last that long. I know Volvos going strong with 300,000!
By the way, did not get to respond yesterday.. how beautiful Addie is… and yes, she is growing fast. Our kids and granddaughter will be moving about 16 hours away..( they are now 3)… so I can really empathize… Thank goodness for facetime!

Judy, have youc considered renting a rig for these big road trips? Can save you a ton of $ over the next 5y instead of buying a newby.
