And hot! But, I’m not talking about the weather.
A couple of days ago, I received an invitation to join a Ravelry group by Jennifer Weissman of ShadyStroll Knits. I didn’t recognize the name but after looking at her patterns, realized I had purchased several of her patterns and have several more in my favorites. Then I noticed there’s a Knit Along which began August 1 and runs through October 31. Very do-able for me.
After looking through all the ShadyStroll patterns, I decided on Partly Sunny. That is one of the prettiest shawl patterns I’ve seen.
Next chore — choose yarn from the stash. No yarn buying! Not gonna do it! 🙂 The pattern calls for 440 yards of the main color and the Tosh Merino Light has 420 yards per skein and I only have one skein of most of the colors so I’m going to hope I can get it out of one skein. There’s usually 20 yards of “fluff” built in and I see that others have made it with one skein. If I have to, I can always add a stripe of the lighter color.
First, I chose Grove which is a dark green, and Paper. I’ve kinda dropped the ball on the Eat, Sleep, Knit Yarnathon this year. Knowing I wasn’t going to be buying much yarn, I figured there weren’t many badges I could earn but after looking at them last night, and remembering there’s a badge for knitting something Estonian and the Partly Sunny shawl has an Estonian border.
Then I looked through my ESK spreadsheet and realized the Paper yarn wasn’t on the list so I went back to digging through the stash and found Winter Wheat which I like just as well and that is yarn from ESK.
But, then I realized that I hadn’t kept my spread sheet current so some of the last yarn added in 2015 and the few skeins I’ve ordered in 2016 were not on the spread sheet and after looking at my ESK invoices, I saw that Paper was, in fact, purchased from ESK so either Paper or Winter Wheat can be used with the Grove.
Which do you like better? The Paper, which is more white, or the Winter Wheat which is more golden yellow? Majority rules . . I don’t really have a preference.

I love the pattern! ….and I like the Winter Wheat better. To me, it seems to have a warmer tone, where the Paper is cooler looking. Either would look nice tho.

Oh, Winter wheat gives the green a “sunny” feel and would be great

Winter Wheat as you’ll have it done to wear in the Autumn. I read the previous post about the stove – good try for not cooking. How about using the section which you didn’t clean yet?
Vicky says
It was a tough choice but I’m going with Paper. A clean look to it
Joyce says
My vote is for Winter Wheat, but either one would be pretty.
