I forgot to tell you about my big mess today. One thing you can about always count on . . I’m going to make a huge mess.
I was scooping out all the pumpkin seeds and putting them in a bowl to clean them. There must have been a million seeds in that bowl . . I filled it with water and as I went to move it from the sink out of the way .. I just let go of it. A lot of it went into the trash can which was pulled out because I was using it so much. A lot of it went behind the trash bag, some went into the trash bat, a lot of it went in the kitchen floor – water and seeds.
Ughh! I didn’t need that. The can was full of pumpkin and spaghetti squash shells and it was heavy. When Vince got home, I asked him to take the trash out. “Please take the can and all. I had a disaster and there’s water and seeds under the bag and in the bag.”
He took it out and came back with a clean can. I asked him if there were a lot of seeds in there. He said “I didn’t look. I just dumped it in the woods.”
You know what that means? We’ll probably have an unexpected pumpkin patch next year!

That new pumpkin patch next summer could be the silver lining behind today’s cloud. 🙂

Oh boy! I hate a mess like that. Maybe next year you’ll have a volunteer crop of punkins that you won’t have to tend…just benefit from.

I made such a mess with putting up pumpkins last year that my house cleaner told me she was still finding pumpkin seeds several months later!

maybe not. we often toss stuff in the woods and it’s gone the next day. critters gotta eat too! thanksgiving turkey carcass is always gone overnight, venison bones take a while more.

At Halloween time I always clean off the pumpkin seeds and then roast them in the oven. I always want more when they’re all gone, but it’s too much of a job to clean out a pumpkin just to roast the seeds!

I chuckled when I read your post. I just dumped a bunch of watermelon and it’s juice quite by accident on the kitchen floor last night and ended up having to move the fridge to clean under it. This morning, there were a few sticky spots I missed.

I guess you can’t fret about opportunity pumpkins or squash! I can only imagine how frustrating that was.
