Vince doesn’t ask for much. He’s usually pretty easy to please. He isn’t perfect but I have never told him that! 🙂
Way back when we were dating my mom wasn’t happy that I was going to marry him and move away, she asked me what was so special about him. I think she was saying “Can’t you find someone who’s happy to live the rest of their life in Louisiana?” 🙂
I told her that he was honest. At that point, I needed honesty more than I had ever needed anything in a relationship. To this day, no matter how aggravated I get with Vince about anything .. and we do have our share of issues, I never forget how much I appreciate his honesty.
Back in those early days, I didn’t realize that he would also eat anything I put in front of him and not complain. That matters to me too because I love trying new recipes and most of the time, they’re pretty good but every now and then, there’s a not so great meal and he eats it with enthusiasm. The worst he has ever said about anything I fixed was “It’s not my favorite” and I know that means he would like to not have that again.
But when he likes something . . he never hesitates to ask for it over and over again.
Over the weekend, he asked for cucumber spread. I still can’t believe I had never fixed that for him before but I guess I’d never had a bunch of home grown cucumbers before last year.
So, I made another batch of cucumber spread. I like that stuff a lot too – especially on a hot day!
Then, before we ever cut into the second loaf of salt rising bread, Vince said “When do you think you can make more of this?” That was Saturday and I said . . I guess I can start another batch today. He said “Good. I really like that!”
By Sunday evening, we had two more loaves of salt rising bread made.
Through the years, I’ve come to appreciate so much more than Vince’s honesty, though that is still very much appreciated. I love that he enthusiastically eats pretty much everything I fix; that he never minds if I say “I think we’re having sandwiches tonight”, and I love that some of the things . . cucumber spread and salt rising bread these days . . make him happy enough that he asks for them over and over again.

I read something this morning that I liked. Marriage isn’t about finding the right person, it’s about being the right person. I think you and Vince have developed that pretty well! I love that you write such nice things about him. You picked a good ‘un.

What do you put in your cucumber spread?
Thanks

Your Vince is so much like my Bill with respect to things I cook. In fact, he says sometimes he is afraid to say something is really good cuz he “thinks” I never make those meals again! I, too, like to try out new recipes and he is always at the ready to eat them! Yes, we (you & I) have a couple of “keepers”!!!

It’s very refreshing to hear that people can really care about each other and still have their differences. I have a good guy too!! We often have breakfast for supper and sandwiches when I just don’t feel like heating up the kitchen. He has always been my best friend now he’s also the light in my life and heart. We’re lucky ladies I’d say!! Pam G
