That has to count for something, right? I almost sewed! 🙂
Nicole had admired Addie’s quilt on the design wall and I could tell she’s anxious for me to finish it. When they left Friday, I went over to the sewing room and thought about sewing but my heart was still breaking from them leaving. My eyes kept wanting to cry and being in there with Boots reminded me how much Addie loved him and how sweet he was with her. I sat with Boots for a while, cleaned up a little in there and gave up trying to sew but Saturday morning, bright and early, I headed over to the sewing room with big plans for getting a lot done.
The EQ design and my pattern are both on the desktop in the sewing room. I went to turn it on and this weird stuff came up on the screen. I’ve been having trouble with it. A lot of times I just leave it on and when I get back to it, it either won’t wake up or tells me something so I just reboot. Yesterday, it had words that looked quite serious so I rebooted and then it wouldn’t even come back on. I went to the house and got Vince and he said “You have a hard drive problem! When was the last time you did a back up?” Hmm . . maybe when we moved 5 years ago! He said “No .. really . . when did you last do a back up?” I hadn’t done one in a very long time.
Vince really spent the entire day messing with that computer. I kept saying “If I can just get the project file for Addie’s quilt, I’ll be happy!” His response was always . . you should have done a back up! Yes, I should have, but I didn’t.
He was able to take the hard drive out. According to him (and none of this makes any sense to me), it won’t boot but you can still read it so he put my hard drive in his desk top and I was able to get the files off that I felt like I needed and then he tried to do a full backup, but we haven’t checked to see if that worked.
A new computer has been ordered and will be here in a week or so. Since that computer doesn’t get used a whole lot, I don’t need a big, fancy, super expensive computer. There are a few things I need/want on my computers so Vince was able to find a computer on sale that made me happy and made his wallet happy.
The part I don’t like is that I have to reload everything, set up all my folders . . but for now, I have Addie’s project file and my notes so I can start sewing again.

Maybe we need to add a regular posting schedule for “Backup report”. 🙂 Most of us could use a reminder.

I find that all too often I go to work at the library with a plan of what I intend to get done that day….and what happens? There will be a computer problem and I have to spend time fixing it!!! Sometimes I think these things were invented just to drive us crazy. At least I have the experience & skill to fix most problems. The main skill required? Don’t be afraid of pushing buttons to see what happens.

P.S….I back up some stuff to Dropbox…at least as much as my free account can handle. Also got a subscription to Backblaze. It backs up my files automatically to the cloud any time I change or add one. (All I have to do is keep track of the password. Ha!!)

You are so lucky to have Vince to work on your computers. It’s the opposite in my house. My husband expects me to fix his glitches. I’ve been out of workstation support for at least 10 years and I don’t want to go back!

The other day, I picked up my computer and said “I didn’t power it off!” My husband rolled his eyes and said “only you,” meaning I come up with unique problems. :-/ It still works, but had a little issue with my Norton (and a browser I don’t use!) Guess I better do a back-up!

I hate when that happens-as it does to my computer every few years. I’ve learned to back up my files but not often enough.
