It was great that Addie was here for a week and we had no scorpion or spider stings/bites and no snake encounters. She’s an outside girl and she stayed out playing. Chad went out scorpion hunting almost every night and probably killed about 20 of the little rascals and I managed to find 2 in the house so hopefully we made a little dent in the scorpion population around here.
Addie loved all the animals. Her other grandma has chickens, cats, dogs, rabbits – who knows what all lives at Nana’s house.
Rita is just the right size dog for snuggling on the sofa (sorry for the south view of both of them!) though I think Rita is happy they’re gone. She was having to sleep with one eye open all day . . never knowing when a little girl was going to grab her for some loving.
Addie LOVES Boots and he was so good with her. She carried him around, she sat and brushed him, she played with him. If she wasn’t outside swinging or swimming or “helping” in the garden, she was wanting to be playing with Boots. Chad liked him a lot too and wanted to bring him home! He kept saying “Why can’t we take Boots home?” and each time, I’d see Nicole raise her eyebrows. They live in an apartment with no good spot for a little box plus Boots sheds so much. This time of year, he walks around dropping clumps of hair. Their Speck sheds quite a bit and I think Nicole would be pulling her hair out with two shedding critters in her home. I told Chad that when they get a bigger place and Addie is a little older, they MAY can have Boots but my real hope is that Boots, along with the rest of the household, will soon be living much closer to them and Addie can see him often.
Addie saw Cat but never got real close to him . . thankfully. I believe Cat is happy they’re gone too. I hardly see much of her this week. She had no interest in coming close to me with the extra folks around. She even hissed at me a few times, which she hasn’t done in a while.
Poor old Speck . . he stayed in a crate in the sewing room. Chad was able to play with him, Nicole was able to pet him but I kept him away from Addie. He’s just too unpredictable. He’s grumpy, he probably hurts and he doesn’t hesitate to bite.
As soon as they left, we brought Speck back into the house. Several times when they would go off and do things, I’d bring Speck back to the house. Rita was always so happy to see Speck back in the house but all old Speck wanted to do was crawl up on his mountain of pillows, get under his quilt and be left alone. That’s kinda what I want to do .. crawl under my quilt, go to sleep and wake up when it’s time to go to Missouri to see Addie again! 🙂
In a few days, I’ll be able to walk into one of the rooms where they slept without tears but today is not that day!

It’s so great that Rita will cuddle with Addie! And that Boots will, too.
It’s so hard to be away from the ones you love, but so good to have them near for these precious days.
