This is not a paid advertisement and is only my personal opinion about Knit Companion. It is so amazing and I truly cannot think of how knitting would be without it. This is a blog post I wrote back in 2014, and there are several other posts. One thing that has changed since I wrote that post is the pricing. The “lifetime” or “legacy” plan is no longer available. I think this might be the current pricing structure.
If you knit a lot, and especially if you knit charts, if you haven’t used KC, I think you will be pleasantly surprised with it’s ease of use and capabilities.
The only “problem” is that as of now, it only works with Apple/IOS products. They’re working on an Android version but it isn’t available as of today.
Sadly, I had never tried setting up charts til I worked on the last Tour-de-Socks pattern. During knitting, I must have said at least 100 times “I can’t believe this!”
Using the Magic Markers (an add on), I was able to highlight any stitches I wanted to highlight and I was able to have it count the number of stitches so I didn’t have to stop and count them each time I came to them. For the section shown above, it was pretty easy because they were all the same number in each row but I just chose an easy section so as not to give away too much info and run into copyright issues.
You can see that the user is able to change the color for the highlighting, and also change the number of stitches at which it starts counting. I can glance at the pattern and see if there’s 2 or 3 stitches in a row, but anything 5 or over, I usually have to count so I have this set to count when there are 5 or more of the same stitches.
Everything is so easy to use and so easy to figure out. There are tutorials, as well as a Ravelry group where there’s always someone available to answer questions.
Again, there’s nothing in this for me but I wanted to share what a great app this is for knitters.
