Cat has been here almost a year to the day. Some days I walk around all day with kitty treats in my pocket and he looks at me like I’m from Mars when I try to coax him over. I’ll sometimes toss one to him . . he turns and walks away. I tried sardines and he wanted no part of them. I left them on top of the table and after several hours, they were gone so one cat or another ate them.
This morning, I walked out the door and Cat was sitting by the back of the RTV. We’ve been putting his food back there because of the rain. I started walking towards him and he came walking pretty quickly towards me. I stopped. He got probably two feet from me and then crept along towards me with his head down. It was like he was thinking . . I can do this! One step at a time . . I can do this!
I didn’t say a word . . just stood very still. He got right up beside me and rubbed up against my leg . . briefly . . but that’s progress!
In one year, we’ve gone through the following stages with him (I know . . don’t keep telling me . . it’s probably a her!)
- I think I just saw a cat!
- That black cat is out there. Should we feed him?
- The cat is hungry again.
- Seeing him every day.
- Now . . he thinks he owns the place.

You are his “person” now. It took him a year to decide to adopt you! You will be at his bec and call soon!
We trapped and tamed a feral kitten and now he is a 15lb indoor lover boy. Enjoy Cat!

Cat had to take her/his time. I agree with you that it is most likely female. Best cat I ever had was a tortie like Cat.

Yay! Unless there has been a pregnancy or kittens, after a year, I’d bet male.

I love hearing about cat.

You certainly are accommodating Cat’s schedule of acquaintance. If it keeps warming up to you, you could end up with another pet. Yikes!

Hi Judy!! I haven’t posted on your blog much at all, but I am a loyal reader!
Cats are much more social than people think. We used to have a huge black and white tuxedo cat. Like most cats, he appeared to sleep all the time. But whenever I went into another room to do some work, before I knew it, he’d be there. If I went outside, he’d come out his cat door and say hi. It wasn’t an in-your-face sort of relationship, but he was always there.
I miss that turkey!
