Tell me how, after knitting socks for over 10 years, I’ve never heard of Tour-de-Sock. I barely heard about it this year! Someone mentioned it in passing in another post on Ravelry so I rushed over there and signed up. There is a $7.50 fee to join but only expenses for mailing prizes and paypal expenses are held out of that fee and the rest is donated to Doctors Without Borders. You will be quite a few free sock patterns.
Sock patterns are released throughout the time period which begins June 1, and there’s a race to finish each pair. They have a point system . . I haven’t figured out all the details. I just want to have fun and not worry about all the behind the scenes stuff.
Registration closes on May 29 so if you’re interested, hop on over there and join the group. You can do it as an individual or you can join a team.
They have sponsors and you get extra points if you use yarn from the sponsors. I love that these 11 dyers are sponsoring these events. They probably get countless requests for donations and the fact that Tour-de-Sock donates so much to Doctors Without Borders, makes me want to support those sponsors (and it also makes me want extra points for using their yarn!)
I went on a search for yarn. I knew I had Dragonfly Fibers, Blue Moon and Miss Babs yarns.
I have these two in Blue Moon Socks That Rock.
I have these two in Dragonfly Fibers.
I have some Miss Babs sock yarn but Miss Babs’ yarn is in the bottom tub in a tall stack of tubs and my back would appreciate Vince moving those tubs for me so I didn’t dig that out.
It has been suggested that the first socks would work best in a solid or tone on tone yarn so I think I’ll use the green (Celery Seed) Dragonfly Fibers yarn. The skein was quite a mess so I wound it to be sure I could do it without losing my mind, and I didn’t have a bit of trouble.
I’m ready for June 1 . . Camp Loopy and Tour-de-Sock!

I did tour de sock a couple of times, but I think I will concentrate on Camp Loopy this summer instead.
Judy Laquidara says
I may be sorry but I’m going to try to do both.
Maggie says
I think you knit way faster than I do, you might be ok!
Karen Sutton says
It appears that I will be doing both also. How did that happen? Oh, I remember, my friend Judy wrote about Tour de Sock on her blog and even included a link. Seriously, thanks Judy, sounds like fun and it’s for a good cause & I love socks!
