Saturday, yesterday, my plan was to finish knitting Tallulah. I’m done with the body and all I need is to finish the sleeves (short sleeves .. almost done already, and the front button bands. It’s a kid’s size 6 . . for goodness sake, why could I not get that done in one day? Mainly because I never picked up the needles!
First, the brisket had been rubbed down on Thursday afternoon so it went into the smoker (for eating today). Then I worked in the garden for a while, dug more of the potatoes from the plants that were damaged so badly they weren’t going to make it. Some of them are quite small and I wouldn’t normally pull such small potatoes but the tops were dead. Then I dug a few carrots, picked some kale and see that one little lemon squash that I picked? I’m going to talk about that in another blog post. Remember that you saw it here, ok?
By the time we were done with all that, I was so tired . . hot and tired! There were peaches that had to be done. I kept saying to myself “I’ll do them tomorrow. No, you need to do them now. They can wait til tomorrow!” There’s a better chance of storms today and I wanted to do the water bath canning part outside so I went ahead and did them yesterday afternoon. 15 half pints. Don’t panic – they had just come out of the canner and some of the jars aren’t sealed in the picture but they all sealed.
Dinner was quick and easy. Vince grilled lamb chops. Raw carrots and squash with green goddess dressing/dip made from Penzey’s Green Goddess Dressing Mix, kale chips and pinto beans.
Then I thought . . I can sit down and knit the rest of the night. It was about 7 p.m. and I called a friend and ended up going to visit them. It was a very enjoyable and much needed visit. We drank a little wine, talked a lot, laughed and had a great visit. It was after 9 p.m. when I left their place and by the time I got home, Vince and I watched a couple of short shows and I was spent . . no knitting at all.
Today, it’s supposed to rain. We aren’t used to humidity here and the humidity has been near 80% yesterday and today. It’s miserable working outside. I keep hoping it will rain. It gets very overcast and I feel vindicated for being inside and then . . the sun is out again. I suppose I’ve sat here on the computer long enough . . at least long enough that there’s no longer sweat dripping from my eyelids into my eyes . . so it’s time to go back outside and work!

It’s early afternoon here in NW Texas and I just fed the birds. It is so humid here you would think you were in East Texas. I am sure hoping the weatherman is wrong about thunderstorms because they have a lot of fuel to work with.

Sounds like a great Saturday to me. I can understand why you’d be tired! I wish I had Vince’s ingenuity at my disposal today. He’s always so clever with making things work out.
