This Mama Chicken!

This mama chicken is trying my patience. My rooster is as sweet as he can be but I guess a mama hen with ONE baby is a force to be reckoned with.

Sorry for the blurry photo. Either she was moving or my hands were shaking. The other day I went to put fresh water in the coop and she puffed herself up and came charging at me. I ended up jumping back and dropping the water, which thankfully went all over me and not all inside the coop.

Look at her  . .  she loves giving me the evil eye!

She only has one baby and he works her butt off. He is all over that orchard and she’s right beside him. I almost feel sorry for her that she only had one egg hatch and then I remember that she stole the whole nest from the bantam hen about 6 days before the eggs hatched . . after the bantam had been sitting for about 15 days. I took some of the eggs and gave them back to the bantam and she now has 3 babies. She’ll squawk at me if she thinks I’m getting too close but this big mama . . she wants to kill me  . . and the feeling is mutual right now!
