Having never grown pomegranates before moving here, and this is the first year our trees have produced, I thought the big red things were the baby pomegranates but nope, they’re just blooms. Gorgeous red blooms!
I need to hang out around the tree and see if the hummingbirds are interested in these blossoms. Maybe not since I’m keeping so much sugar water around for them.
It’s funny when you think about all the fruit trees and how different they all are. The plum trees produce a tiny, dainty little blossom and plums are quite a bit smaller than pomegranates but the blossom size definitely isn’t proportionate to the fruit size.
This is the first time this bush/tree has produced and this is its 4th year here. I counted 30 blossoms. There are three other pomegranates that have fewer blossoms so I’m hoping to get enough fruit to at least make some jelly.

You know, when I saw “pomegranates” in your blog post title, I got all excited — I immediately thought of those antique pomegranate applique quilts. Hah! I forgot that there WAS such a thing as a REAL pomegranate that grows out of the earth!
