How is it that a little bird’s nest scared the you know what out of me? Who’s afraid of a bird’s nest? I guess it was just seeing it there and not expecting to see it but it made me scream!
Yesterday I was canning beets and it was a good day to do the cooking part outside. The small canner was on the right and the large canner was on the left burner but I wanted the large canner on the right burner so I picked up the small canner to move it and . . there was this fluffy, feathery bird’s nest.
That looks like one of the softest nests I’ve seen. She had been gathering up chicken feathers for quite a while I’d say.
Canning plans had to be changed. Of all the places around here to build a nest . . why in my cooker where I do my canning? I’m guessing under that pot was a nice, safe spot where the cats couldn’t bother the nest.

I just found my watering can full of a bird’s nest. I am guessing my birds were Wren’s. It was full of everything from pine straw to string.

You’re so sweet to work around the baby birds!!

Looks like the bird used chicken feathers to line her nest! We have a Steller’s Jay trying to build a nest on top of a high roof beam. They try this location every year, but seldom succeed, and usually end up just leaving a pile of twigs and grass on our deck.
