Am I the only one who spends more time deciding what to knit and then trying to find the perfect yarn . . in the stash? Same with quilting . . if you’re trying to work from the stash, it can take forever to decide on fabrics. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve started completely over . . make a decision on using blue and brown and tan. Can’t find the perfect blue so I switch to green, orange and yellow. Can’t find the perfect green so I switch to something else. It’s so much easier to buy new fabric or new yarn . . but I’m not doing that!
The Loopy Monthly Mixer for March was something that starts with “M” for “Mars”. All the yarn shops seem to be doing planet themes this year. That reminds me – we have Kroger, Brookshire’s, United and Aldi here. How is it that the ads come out on Tuesday and three out of four of them will have the same things on sale for the same price? Lay’s potato chips, broccoli, some weird cereal. How does it happen that they have the same things for the same price? I think it’s some kind of conspiracy and should be investigated! Not really . . but I do spend more time than I should checking to see who all has the same things on sale for the same price.
OK . . now that should confirm your suspicions that I’m not quite right.
The next yarn projects have been decided.
First, I cast on yesterday for Mim’s Chevrons for Addie. I’m making a size 6. She really has enough sweaters for this year and the ones I made her have been big enough that she should be able to wear them next winter too. There’s a KAL on one of the Madelinetosh boards at Ravelry and it runs through March for using the mini skeins so I’ll participate in that.
For the March Loopy project, Mim’s Chevrons would count since it starts with an “M” and since I’m using “Madelinetosh” yarn but the yarn came from Madelinetosh directly. It’s DK Twist and TLE doesn’t carry that yarn.
For the Monthly Mixer, I’m going to make Monkey Socks using Sweet Georgia’s bulletproof sock yarn. It’s 50% superwash merino, 20% nylon, 15% kid mohair and 15% silk so it seems to have all the ingredients for making a strong, wearble sock. It feels good, though it’s like knitting with fine hair after using worsted weight yarn. I need to decide if I’m going to do two at a time on two circular needles, and curse my way through it or pull out the old double points and do it the way I like best. The color is Rosebud.
This will also be my sock project for Loopy Academy. I was pretty committed to doing something different for my Loopy Academy/Monthly Mixer projects but, you can see that commitment didn’t last long.
The socks will be my “kitty knitting project”. It’s easier to go knit with Boots if I keep a project over there and don’t have to bring something back and forth.

Just wondering—the town that you live nearest to–Brownwood–is it sort of like the Texas town in the TV program, Friday Night Lights? Are many people kind of obsessed with high school football?
Or do you think it’s a stereotype that small towns in Texas are very absorbed with kids playing football?
Love your blog! Love learning about Texas and chickens and your garden. 🙂
