It seems as though Amazon is having a sale through February 13 on most (maybe all) Kindle products. We all have our favorites. My favorite is the Paper White. The battery will last “for weeks” according to Amazon. I read for about an hour a night (unless my sister has some hysterical shenanigans going on over at Facebook) and my Paper White rarely needs charging. I charge it when I know I’m going to be reading it for several hours – traveling, waiting for appointments, etc. Otherwise I probably plug it in about once a month. I love that it has built-in adjustable lighting so there’s no need to keep a table lamp on while reading. It looks like the Paper Whites are $20 off this week.
My least favorite is the Fire. I think it’s because my main purpose of having a Kindle is for reading – not playing games, not surfing the internet, not emailing – just reading. According to Amazon, the Fire battery will last up to 7 hours, and for me, that means about 5-1/2 hours.
My current favorite table is the Samsung Galaxy TabS, but it’s comparable in price to an iPad. With the Fire, with special offers (ads) on sale for $39, I don’t mind using it for taking to and from the grocery store for my grocery list, or having in my knitting bag for when I want to read or play a game of solitaire. I’d rather have it on the kitchen counter following along with a recipe instead of my iPad or Samsung tablets. I’m not saying $39 is pocket change but it’s a heck of lot different than $200 or even $450. For $39, I highly recommend the Fire for anyone who uses a tablet in a similar way to how I use one.
So, if you’re in the market for an inexpensive little tablet/reader, check out the Fire and other tablets on sale at Amazon this week.

I actually have two kindles and I use them for everything – even reading sometimes. I have to say personally speaking the kindle fire hdx battery seems to last longer than the regular kindle fire. I also have prime and love all the free movies etc that comes with. It was a life saver when I was in the hospital two years ago for two weeks, kept me entertained. And again last Nov when dh was in for surgery – he’s all better now – it really helped pass the time. His surgery was 3 hrs away and a friend drove us and waited with me then brought me home. I took both kindles and headphones and we could both watch movies while we waited during 5 hr surgery. We even bought one of the new fairly inexpensive ones for our friend who drove us as a thank you. Also love that I got high gb versions so you can download direct and not have to depend on wifi.

That’s great that there are so many versions. All your reasons make it sound like you’re using the right one for you! I never watch movies even at home so I know I’d never watch one on the Fire. But, it’s so nice to know I could if ever I wanted to. I wish my grandparents, who never really even had a good TV with cable, could see all that we can do now.

I have a nook but find sometimes books aren’t available on it but are on kindle. I have been considering a paperwhite for a while now because reading on my iPad can sometimes be distracting. Do you have the version with or without the special offers? If with, what do they look like or how often do they appear?

Thx. If I had some spare change (ha, ha, ha!), I’d get that Fire for my younger son. He’s so not tech savvy and it would serve his needs (movies and games!) perfectly.

I have a paperwhite, too. You’re so right about the battery life. Also, love the no glare screen that can be read outside – it’s similar to reading a paper book page.

Judy, Judy, Judy! You ARE a super saleswoman! I bought a Fire today. Hope I can learn to use it. Such a good price.
At least I passed on the Tractor Sprinklers! haha.
