It seems to be a never-ended effort around here . . losing weight! But, Mardi Gras is coming and even though I won’t be in Louisiana, I really do need to make a King Cake. But, we really don’t need to eat a King Cake. But, if I don’t make a King Cake, and Mardi Gras 2016 is gone . . never to be enjoyed again so . . I think I’m going to make a King Cake next week.
This is my recipe that I copied from an old 2008 blog post and that’s the King Cakes I sent to work with Vince that year.
For the cake portion, you can use any brioche type recipe. The “cake” is more like a slightly sweet bread.

It doesn’t seem that bad. No worse than a brownie. =) Just don’t eat it all at one time.

Ok, I am thinking since you plan to double that recipe I might as well pack a suitcase, fill up the 4Rnr and head your direction. I’ve had one of those and wow! are they ever delicious.

Looks tasty! I live in the west. I’ve heard of King’s Cake and about the hidden baby, but I never realized that it was a yeast bread. I thought that it was a regular cake.
It’s like cinnamon rolls with almond filling rather than cinnamon filling! It sounds delicious. 🙂

Our first year back we had 2 friends from our Taiwan days cone to visit for a few days. The friend who lives on the coast in MS brought along a king cake. I got the baby. Good cake. Our HEB has had them in the store but I have resisted the temptation.
