Addie’s mermaid blanket is finished.
Didn’t it turn out cute? Because I want to see her face when she sees it, I’m going to be a selfish Granny and wait and take it to her next time I go.
The pattern is Mermaid Tail Lap Blanket for Children and Teens. The yarn is Red Heart Super Saver (acrylic) from Walmart. This little blanket is probably going to get lots of wear and tear so I figured inexpensive acrylic that washes in the washer would be just fine.

Judy, would you like to know what you mean to one of your readers? I read this post and smiled widely at the picture of something incredibly sweet that you made for your beloved granddaughter. I’m currently working with my brother to take care of my father who broke his hip in November then six weeks later fell and broke a couple ribs. We tried assisted living but he needed more care so is now in a memory care nursing home unit. He is incredibly angry and resistive even as we try to do our best to make sure he knows he is loved and well taken care of. The past two months have been incredibly difficult and emotionally draining. I’m sure we’re not the only ones to deal with older parents that need help but sometimes we just need something positive in the midst of so much negativity. So cute picture = teeny bit of joy.
I also lost my son more than twenty years ago in a horrible accident while we were on a family vacation. That pain of loss is still there. Sometime in the past year you posted about the Cat Bordhi squiggle hat you were knitting for Addi. I purchased that pattern because Cat said she gets such positive responses when she wears it and she said it’s good for a psychological boost. I’ve made several since including a couple for my granddaughters. We call it the happy hat. Never fails to make me smile when I see them wearing it. Now, I just finished one for the grandson of a friend whose granddaughter died tragically in the past year. I’m hoping it will bring a small amount of joy for that family whenever their four-yr old pops it on his head. A very, very little thing but sometimes we need all we can get for a little piece of joy.
So that’s one of the reasons why I read your blog. You probably have no idea of exactly how much you touch us sometimes. You are loved.

I do so agree with the sentiment expressed by Connie H I was going to write to tell you how much your last two posts made me smile and be happy but I am just putting it out there today. Thanks for being there for so many of us.

That is absolutely adorable! You are going to make a knitter out of me yet! I wonder how many of us purchase patterns because of something you blogged about. I followed a gal from your design wall link up and found several adorable patterns she had designed. They are not in my library on craftsy.
