Way back in the day of folks my age having babies, a friend was pregnant. Her son was maybe 6 and when they were talking about baby names, her son said “Mom! If it’s a girl can we name her Fluffy?” For close to 30 years, I’ve smiled thinking of my friend’s son wanting to name the new baby “Fluffy”.
Then, today, I noticed my husband has a friend on Facebook and her name is “Fluff”. Whether that’s her real name or not, it made me smile. Looking at her profile, she grew up in the same town Vince did so I’m guessing she’s a high school friend. I hope I remember to ask him if that’s her real name and find out a little more about her. Someone named “Fluff” has to be a fun loving person!

That does sound like a fun name. When my daughter was little, she had a playmate in our apartment complex named Strawberry. That was her given name. Somewhere in the world there is a 46 year old woman named Strawberry trying to explain what her parents were thinking!

As a teacher several years ago, I had a new student come in about Christmas time. Her name was Strawberry Shortcake. Grandmother had just won custody as both parents had been incarcerated for drug abuse. The Grandmother had her name legally changed as quickly as she could. She was only in our school for the remainder of that year. I have often wondered what happened to her. She would be in her 30’s now.

My little brother’s teacher in kindergarten was a gruff voiced, matronly women
named ‘Fluff’ and all the kids adored her. She was very ‘grandmotherly’….too funny!

This is a story about “Fluffy” but it’s not a human. A friend of mine’s son had two goldfish. One of them died. When she told him that one of the fish had died, he said “I hope it’s not Fluffy!” She said “Which one is Fluffy?” He said “Both of them!”

About 30 years ago when my daughters were lower elementary ages, we found a book called A Porcupine Named Fluffy. Cute story and wonderful illustrations… and now I have the pleasure if reading it to my grands.

Growing up I had a friend who had an Uncle Fuzzy, and his mom was known as Muffin. Fluffy is cute too.
