Patchwork Times and my ramblings will continue in 2016. There are sometimes comments that folks came to Patchwork Times because of the quilting. Some want more of it, some understand that things change. The blog actually started back in 2004 as Sunshine Quilts. There were quilting posts but there were many posts about my every day life. This was a picture from our little house in town about this exact time of the year in 2004 — 11 years ago. Some of you have been reading that long!
Life was different back then . . getting Chad out of high school was a real accomplishment! In May, it will be 10 years since he graduated from high school.
I think the look on his face tells you where Addie gets her attitude!
Back in 2006, Speck was not an old, gray haired dog. He has always loved sleeping in the sun.
Ahh . . looking back . . that’s why I love blogging. As Patchwork Times continues, it will be about whatever I’m doing, whatever Vince and I are doing, what we’re cooking, what we’re planting, what we’re planning and what I’m doing whether it’s sewing, knitting, hooking or spinning.
Specific list type items that will continue:
- Stash Report – The Stash Report will continue on Sunday but it will be a combined fabric/yarn stash report. You may add a fabric and yarn report or either – whatever suits you. Remember that we do not need to know how much yardage, skeins or bolts we’re starting with. All we really need to track is what we add and what we use so we’ll know at the end of the year whether we’ve used more than we’ve added. Your goal may be to add more fabric or yarn . . that’s fine. My goal is to work from the stash. I think I have that mastered with fabric and I’m hoping to do better in 2016 with yarn.
- Design Wall – The design wall post will continue on Monday. Even though I don’t have much to contribute, I LOVE seeing what everyone else is working on.
- On the Needles – This will continue on Fridays. Again, I love seeing what everyone is working on. It’s always helpful if you tell us what pattern and what yarn you’re using, but that surely isn’t required.
One thing I’d like to do, and we’ve already set up the Hitofude Knit Along, would be a few Knit Alongs if there’s any interest. 6 will be a great year for all of you!
OK . . who’s with me in 2016? 🙂
Sherrill says
WOW!! 2004! I haven’t been with you nearly that long but I enjoy most everything you post about (not a knitter but still amazed at how much you accomplish!). Sounds like Chad’s about the same age as my younger. He was 28 earlier this month.
Dot says
I’ll be spending 2016 with you. Your life is quite different from mine, and it’s fun to read about whatever you do. And I have a niece who lives near Cross Plains, so I get to see what’s happening in her part of the world.
Cheryl says
Yes, I think I stumbled across your blog because of a quilt along, but I love reading what goes on in your next of the woods every day! So different from my life in suburbia outside Washington, DC, but hope to have more of your experiences in retirement. I enjoy laughing with you about things at home, watching your garden grow, and following your quilting and knitting. I’ll definitely be along for 2016. Thanks for sharing your anecdotes!
Marie Gilkey says
I’ll be here! Love hearing that someone’s life can be as crazy as mine!! Happy New Year’s to you and yours!
Donna says
I’ll be there because your life is so interesting to me and I love all the animals and critters. I do miss the quilting but also enjoy the other stories you tell!
Alison says
I’m with you girl! After checking my emails, reading the news, yours is the first blog I click on – several times a day! I always know there will be something interesting there!
Good on you – I feel like you are an old friend.

I’ll still be around in 2016 too. Quilting is my thing, knitting is not, but I love seeing what all other things are going on in your world, whether it be Vince, Addie, Chad & Nicole, Speck, Rita, Boots, or all the happenings in your garden and kitchen. Heck, I’ll even find the bugs & snakes interesting, but I’ll let you be the one that hangs out with them.
Deb P says
I’ll be here, love reading about your life! So different than mine and to keep up with Addie’s antics! I grab my coffee in the morning and then sit down to check the blog so I am glad you are continuing some of the same routine.
Happy New Year!

I’ll be with you. I feel like you have become a friend. I’m a quilter, but you have inspired me to get my crochet hook out. I’ve never been able to manage knitting needles but your knitting projects almost make me want to try.
Meloney says
I’m with you on the stash report and design wall. I like knowing how I did for the year.
Seems that I think I didn’t do well and then I see my results.
thank you

I’m with you! I am a quilter and because of you I’m now a knitter! I got my yarn and have done my gauge swatch for the KAL. Bring it on! 🙂

Hi Judy, I have been with you since just before the move to Missouri! I love reading your blog. It’s always the first one I check on. Even though we don’t get to see each other in person I can keep up with what is going on in your life by your blog. Thanks for including us in your life! I will definetly be following in 2016. I am swatching for the Hitofude KAL.
Helen says
I’ll be reading your blog. Maybe you’ll get your quilting mojo back, but if not it will be interesting to see what you get up to.
Ramona says
I, too, enjoy your blog and will continue to follow you in 2016. Happy New Year!

I’ll be with you! My quilting is on the back burner but my knitting obsession is still in full swing. Looking forward to the knit along in Feb.

Love reading your blog, no matter what you are writing about. It has been fun to watch Chad grow up and become a dad of a precious little girl!

I’ll be with you! I’m still debating about the KAL but I expect by February I’ll have myself talked into it!
Beth C in MA says
I am looking forward to 2016 with you. Love the different things you come up with throughout the year.

YEs – I’ll be here. My quilting has also gone into a snooze mode, but I need to restart the 15 minutes a day in the quilt room.
Sandy N says
Your blog is truly one of my favorites. I came over the first time following a link that Jo’s Country Junction had with her “Stash Report” for the week and never left. I love reading every aspect of your life and Chad and Nicole’s life. Love seeing the little munchkin grow and hearing about her antics. I’m glad to continue in 2016 and hopefully for many years to come!
Carol says
I am one of those who started following you because of quilting. My quilting has slowed down a lot but I have started new things since then…pc cooking, crocheting, gardening, having a dog just to name a few. You have inspired me to try all these things and I thank you for that. You are inspiration for me and I will continue to follow your exploits with great expectations. Happy New Year Judy and Vince. May the adventures continue!
Angie in SoCal says
I came for the quilting, however was instantly charmed by your varied adventures in your life. I’ll be here in 2016.
Jackie says
I’ve been around since some time during your life in MO. Not sure what led me to your blog. I’ll be around in 2016 too. I always enjoy your conversational style of writing and seeing what you and Vince are up to.
Rebecca in SoCal says
I don’t remember that picture, but I do remember when you had two houses. I’m another who came for the quilting and has stayed for your varied adventures. (Excuse me while I go stir the cranberry liqueur from the recipe you shared last year). 😀

I’m in !
LesaM says
I’m in, too! I enjoy all your posts. You inspired me to knit socks. I love your homemade hand cream. Tried many recipes. And can’t wait for 2016.

I’ll be here and I’m looking forward to the KAL. Sorting through my yarn to see if I have that much fingering weight, but looks like I’ll need to order. Oh well.
Brenda Ramey says
Oh Judy how boring life would be if we didn’t change and evolve!! Thanks to Donna Bradbury I felt like I knew you long before you came to our Wichita Quilt Guild. You have become a good neighbor and I would miss you if you went away! I too will be right here!
Brenda who moved to cold Colorado
Deborah Sarhan says
I’ll be here – you inspire the homesteader in me …. even though it’s not a reality – yet ! I know one day I’ll be off the grid, where sunshine will power my home, and I’ll live close enough to the ocean to build sandcastles each summer. I’ll get my milk from my goats, and raise most of my meat and veggies. Although I’ll still have neighbors, visit restaurants and Walmarts (mostly for the people watching) each day I look forward to reading your blog because it is one step closer to where I want to be… one day.
Sherry says
I’ll be here. Love reading about your family and your life in Texas. The design wall
Monday is one of my favorite posts. Who knows, you may even encourage me to take up knitting.
Jennifer in Indy says
I’m with you Judy! I started reading in ’08 or ’09 when Chad was in college and you were in Nevada….I stopped over to see about this quilter coming to our guild and I’ve been reading ever since – and lucky enough to meet you and get to know you at Shipshewana. I like the changes in direction and look forward to what the next year brings – goats, sheep, cross-stitch?
Diann says
Continue on! I start my day with your blog. I’m not so interested in cooking but I love the Vince stories/animal stories/Addie and family stories and the “conversations” Just all of it down to Boots/Speck/Rita and the chickens. Love the blog.
Denise in PA says
I’m with you, Judy! I may have initially started following your blog because of quilting, but I love reading about everything you write about – and I get so many ideas and inspirations! Thank you for taking the time to do this blog!
