This is the time of year I can forget about scorpions and spiders and snakes and bask in our gorgeous weather. Here’s what my friends at Accuweather say about today and the next couple of days.
The heater is off. The air conditioner is off. The solar panels are working and sending power back to the electric company so we should have a zero bill again this month. I’ve worked out in the garden. Vince has worked in his shop. We’re enjoying being outside in December. When I was in MO, it was pretty warm there and lots of places seem to be having unseasonably warm weather in December. Except that I know warm weather when it’s supposed to be cold can often mean tornadoes, so you folks along those storm paths the next few days, please be safe . . but warm weather is so appreciated this time of year. Tomorrow, I plan to work out in my worm beds. It’s great to be able to do outside chores in December without a heavy coat.
Winter is coming though.
Friday night and Saturday we could have a bit of snow and some heavy rain and it doesn’t take much to bring down the power lines out here in the country. Vince has filled up our gas cans. Generators have been tested and let run for a few minutes. We would use the generators to keep the food frozen in the freezers and to run the well pump as needed. Propane man has been called. We never let our tanks get below 50% so we just tell him when he’s out in our part of the world, to please stop b and top off our tanks. He said he’ll be here next week. He knows we never let our tanks get low so it’s never a “get here as quickly as you can” situation for us.
Firewood is stacked on the porch. We’ll use the fireplace for heat more than the furnace anyway. Free firewood vs. propane . . firewood wins every time!
There’s a very slim chance we would lose power but, better safe than sorry so we’re ready for whatever happens.

It is supposed to be close to 80 in central Virginia tomorrow with a chance of thunderstorms. It is 1:11 am and 62.9 outside. Warmest Christmas on record. I may be decorated, but it does not feel like Christmas. We are going to be toasty in our new cozy pj’s.
