Talk about the child ruling the parents . . we have a very good example at Chad and Nicole’s house! 🙂
They have a few packages under the tree and Addie was just begging and begging to open one. Who wants to guess how many packages will remain by the time Christmas Day arrives. They kept telling her no . . you have to wait til Christmas. Finally Chad said “I’ll make a deal with you! If you want to open one present, you have to give up something.” Addie said “OK! I’ll give up the oval!” Nicole said “Oh, that’s what I was hoping she’d give up!”
Isn’t that funny for a 3 year old.
Now when she says she wants a fire truck, a book about penguins and an oval . . they remind her that she gave up the oval to in order to open one package already!

Could the OVAL be an OWL?

Of course I guess my question would be to the parents, why are there gifts to a 3 year old under the tree already? Of course she wants to open them!!! Probably why I never put the tree up until Christmas eve when my boys were small!!! I guess my children were deprived!!
Oval, could it be opal? It’s where my October baby brain went!!! Maybe she’s wanting jewelry already? *grin*

Well, that solves the oval problem at least. The twin grandchildren will be three before next Christmas & I can’t wait to hear what they ask for. At two yet this year they haven’t figured out that they can ask for something for Christmas & Santa will bring it. 🙂

Too funny especially the power of a 3 yr old! Taking a break from wrapping & thought I would check your blog re: The Oval! Guess we’ll never know now!!

Since my grandsons, 6 & 8, will be staying at our house a few days before Christmas, I know it will be killing them to see presents under the tree and not be able to open them. So I bought them each a small cheap gift for each day until Christmas day. Just small things, like a bag of beef jerky ( which they love), gummy worms, or an ornament, etc. They don’t care what it is, they just want to open something.
My grandma used to do a similar thing for us. She would get us a sensible present that we couldn’t open until Christmas day and then something not so sensible that we could open on Christmas Eve. For us girls it was usually something like paper dolls (the Lennon Sisters were my favorite), or hair barrettes. The boys usually got something like a pack of baseball cards or marbles. I’ve never forgotten how excited we’d get over these gifts.
