Darn . . I walked past the peach trees and their budding. Mid-December! No! Don’t do that!
It’s so hard growing fruit trees here . . winters aren’t harsh enough to get some things to grow, too harsh for other things to grow, and too finicky for most things. We had nights in the 20’s and days in the low 30’s and then we have nights in the 60’s and days in the 80’s . . all in December!
It’s better that they bud out now and get frozen back than if they were blooming in March and get frozen back but still, they should be dormant now . . storing up energy for producing peaches.
Mother Nature is going to do what she wants to do . . with no regard to what I want.

I live much farther north in Texas than you do and the roses are budding and blooming….yes, in December.

It’s not just in Texas.
We live on Long Island, New York and I still have roses blooming.
When I was out running errands on Tuesday, I noticed the cherry tree’s blooming.
And dandelion’s still in the yard.
Totally screwed up weather.

I’m in Western PA, and have a forsythia bush along my driveway that’s blooming. My poor sisters in Iowa and Colorado have already had more than a few inches of snow, and it was in the teens this past week. 🙂 I’ll take the 68 degrees it’s supposed to be here today!!

The lawn guys stopped coming in November, and I need to go out and do it myself this week. The grass is positively shaggy.

My DIL’s mother posted earlier today that her magnolia tree is budding in Kansas City.
2 weeks ago, we had a snow/freezing rain/ice storm in the Texas panhandle and this week it has been in the 60’s and 70’s – tonight we’re having thunderstorms and tornado watches (very unlikely). Weather is REALLY crazy all over the US this year.

This makes me grateful for the cool week ahead, with highs around 60!

Forsythia budding in Middle TN, too. Also noticed a couple of new blooms on my Encore azaleas yesterday. Weird!
