Just as I figured, the hams were marked down. I told Vince about seeing the hams and thinking they might be marked down so he went back and there they were. Marked down!
Ham #1 was marked down from $51.62 to $35.38.
Country Ham #2 was marked down from $58.97 to $30.97.
Do not ask me why the one that’s regular $58 is $30 and the one that’s $50 is $31. More United math I suppose. My guess is that they printed two labels and got them mixed up. No one was paying attention to see that one should have been less than the other. I’m not complaining. This is a great price and way less than if you order directly from Smithfield Country Hams.
I would love to know how many people picked up these hams, read this part and put them back down:
“Wash with warm water and a stiff brush to remove the mold”. Hmm . . those folks who got scared off by that . . their loss is my gain! 🙂
Not much mold on that side!
A little mold on that side but it was scrubbed off, the ham soaked all evening, all night and I’ll soon get it to cooking! We’ll be having country ham, scalloped potatoes, corn and green salad for dinner tonight. Yum!

Yummy! If I leave now…would I be there in time for dinner? Lol

My sister recently took a class on how to make (salt and smoke) her own country ham. Seems like something you would do!

Ah, that is too funny. Don’t believe I’ve ever seen cooking/prep instructions quite like that. And are you sure you have room in the freezer? Or maybe you’re going to can those in some ways. Either way, you got em!! YAY!

I don’t believe I’ve ever had this type of ham. I’ll have to be on the lookout for it. Are they always this “large”? I once had a stuffed ham in Maryland – that was really good, but I don’t know that they started with a country ham.

I love country ham! My mom’s family were mostly farmers and her sister raised and smoked their own hogs. My dad was a city boy from the north. My mom loved to tell the story of how my dad ruined their first country ham by cutting all the mold off instead of washing it. But he did make really good chili!
