Speck is doing fantastic! I have no idea what happened to him last week. He was falling when he tried to walk and now he walks just fine. He’s back to eating like a pig .. dachshunds really do love to eat. He’s back to trying to get in the dishwasher when I’m loading up. I never did manage to get any of the meds down him. I guess I’ll just give up and save them for next time.
Speaking of dogs, we have friends who are also dog lovers and they always get pups at the pound but they were at a park a while back and there was a little dog . . looks part dachshund to me . . and she had recently had puppies but they were not with her. She was just skin and bones. Friends tried to find owners, she wasn’t microchipped. They took her home and I think they halfway intended to take her to the pound but ended up keeping her, getting her spayed . . the works. They use the same vet we do . . he must love all of us who can’t say no to a stray.
Anyway, that little dog is the sweetest thing. I would have brought her home if they’d let me. She’s not much bigger than Rita but a bit longer and weighs a pound or two more. She loves to be held! She would go from my lap to Vince’s lap. Finally, she got tired and curled up on the back of the sofa .. just like Rita does.
Vince and I had just said that when Speck is gone, we’re going to just have Rita and be a one dog family but after spending a few hours with our friends’ dog, I’m quite sure we’ll end up with another dog eventually.
I’m so very happy that Speck is back to his old self. Like I said . . it’s just a matter of time with him being so old but I appreciate him and love on him way more than I did before he got sick.

So good to hear he’s turned the corner, it sounds like dogs are alot like kids they can and do get sick and really sick so quickly and then all of a sudden they are running around all over the place. I hated working on Ped’s.

Great news about Speck.
If you get another dog after he passes (hopefully a long time from now) get a male. Rita sounds like an alpha, she’ll get on better with a boy.

Soooo glad to hear about Speck – I have been almost afraid to read your blog lately. Maybe jsut like humans he just had a touch of some nonspecific virus.

Glad Speck’s doing better and hope he keeps it up for a good while! I guess I had a weird dachshund because he was the PICKIEST eater! Drove me insane!! All my other dogs were pigs.
