For Christmas, Addie wants:
- A firetruck
- A book about penguins
- An oval
What the heck is she talking about . . an oval?
I found a cute firetruck puzzle at Amazon, though I’m quite sure that is not what she had in mind. Chad got an electric fire truck . . the kind with the rechargeable battery that you ride in and drive, when he was 2. Maybe shee’s seen pictures of that and she’s expecting one . . not from Granny I hope! Chad was 3 and we had moved to a small town in Texas. The Burger King wasn’t far from our house and during their off hours, we would walk along while Chad drove through the drive through. The workers came to expect him every day . . riding his fire truck through the drive through.
Finding books about penguins was easy. I saw a puzzle with shapes and it had an oval but it was for a younger child. I have no idea if she’s seen something and is calling it the wrong thing or, if when they were studying shapes in pre-school, the oval just made a big impression on her.
Any thoughts about an oval as a gift for a 3 year old?

Addie may mean Olaf from the Disney film Frozen. My ggson calls him Ogle tince he can’t manage Olaf.
Carolyn says
What is her birthstone? Does she mean Opal? Will love to see what his mystery Oval is?
Erin says
Haha good luck! Maybe it is Olaf! My son kept saying when he was two he wanted a front door from Santa! Huh? Then when three same thing! Then one day I said want to look out front door and watch kids play? He ran to door! Suddenly my neighbor went by in a Volkswagon Bus! This was 1986! Remember those? Son is yelling “front door front door I want a front door!” That’s when I put it all together.. He had a little “front door” in his stocking!

There’s also a mermaid doll named Opal, who is a character from the Lalaloopsy cartoon show. Maybe she means that. Hard to tell unless you ask her. It’s probably not what you think!!

Could it be Osmo? There is a new thing this year with that name. It is some shaped blocks that you use to copy shapes in an iPad app. It is supposed to be very good for cognitive development.

My first thought was an owl. Or can she pronounce that clearly already?

I remember my brother wanted a cake, a mirror and a reindeer when he was 3.

I’d think Nicole or Chad would be able to get her to explain what that means. Could be anything! I’ve got 5 grands and you have to do some sleuthing!

My grandson has that puzzle! He loves it!!! I think I got that puzzle for him two Christmases ago. He’s 4 1/2 now and that puzzle is still a crowd pleaser!!!

LOL! My youngest grand son is 7 – the only one who gave us a handwritten Christmas list. On nit was “A Dime”. On Thanksgiving I asked him – did you mean like the coin? And he said yes. So I asked why – and he just shrugged and ran off. So guess what I will box up and wrap for him this year!

The first thing that came to my mind was a skating oval. Now that would be fun to wrap 🙂

My nieces daughter has “a sandwich” on her list this year!

Has she seen any of the princess movies where they have a fancy, oval mirror with a handle? So glamorous! Our daughter wanted a pretty circle, which meant the fancy mirror from a cinderella book we had.
patti says
my first thot was an opal… and it’s oval! but then i figured she’d want to quilt with her grandma and she MUST mean an olfa, as in cutter, and then you and she could have hours of fun together! OK, it’s the grandma in me that is trying to work a good angle to give you both a great christmas gift.
Trina says
Maybe an oven. Are easy bake ovens still being sold?

The next time you Skype with her, ask her to tell Granny more about the oval.
Dotti says
Jess’s has a great fire truck. Oval, on your own.
Donna in KS says
You’re ahead of me! I can’t seem to get any suggestions directly from the youngsters, only their moms! Definitely ask her some leading questions! Good luck.
Mary says
I think she’ll tell you more if you’re ask questions. What color doe you want? Where did you see it? Is there an oval in your classroom? Do you think Daddy wants an oval, too? What do you do with the oval? I’ll look forward to hearing what it is. I saw the cutest penguin today at Ace Hardware. It had a red hat on it. About 3 ft. tall – maybe an inflatable. Once you find out the oval, maybe you could buy a tree ornament to represent it. Then she’d have it to remember this age.

There are some cute toy/book/ puzzles like things that have different kinds of stuff that run on a track( no batteries push backward to wind up to go). They are so darn cute. You can get different cars, trucks, trains, helicopters, and firetruck. We saw them at Canton and a few other craft markets lately. You could get her one of those and get different things for it.

Santa was at our office this past weekend so all the employees could bring their kids/grandkids to visit with him. One of the requests from a little boy — he wanted chips and guacamole for Christmas. ROFLOL

My first year of teaching, I had one of the teacher’s aide’s son in my first grade class. One morning she came in and angrily asked me why I was teaching religion. I frantically searched my mind for what I had done and then she started laughing. Her son had come home talking about “doom” instead of “dew”.
