I should have taken a “before” picture but I didn’t .. here’s the status of my Hitofude.
Totally unraveled!
It started with a mistake during the sleeve part. There’s an 8 row repeat and I accidentally left off rows 7 and 8 in about set#5 of 14 sets. I thought . . no problem . . it’s the sleeve and it will be in the part near the seam so no one will notice but, after getting past that part, I realized that mistake row also ran across the back of the sweater. It wasn’t *that* noticeable so I figured I’d just leave it. Then, when I started on the part below the ribbing, after a few rows, I realized the pattern wasn’t lining up with the pattern at the top.
So, back to the beginning. I figure if over 4,000 people have made this thing, I can make it too!

Oh no. It’s a good thing with yarn you can start over again and not like when you cut your fabric wrong for a quilt pattern.

I know we hate it but we all unknit at one time or another. I feel your pain. (As an aside, I need to replace my yarn winder. What did you get when you replaced yours? And do you like love it? I’ve looked and looked but am only more confused!)
time or another.

Major bummer!! I looked at that pattern. It is beautiful but the difficulty ratings are over the place and it scared me off. I’m sticking with socks. I can do those and if I do make a mistake the tinking is on a smaller scale. It’s a beautiful color yarn. I look forward to seeing your completed sweater.

Oh Wow! That must have been a hard bit of frogging. I’ve seen pictures of the finished piece, and it’s beautiful. I hope your next go-round will be successful!!! Great color, BTW.

I’m a beginning knitter, inspired several years ago by you, actually. And I’m wondering why you don’t use a lifeline. I am always sorry when I don’t use them although they are annoying to use. I’m hoping you don’t because you so rarely have to tink–I’d love to get to the point where I wouldn’t need them any more.

I had to do the same thing last night to my current project. I am making a Knit Woven Scarf for my sons girlfriend. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/knit-woven-scarf
I was almost finished with the body of it when I realized that the whole thing was garter stitch, not stockinette as I was knitting. Sometimes mistakes are “part of the art” and sometimes they can alter the whole projects outcome. Unlike fabric, yarn is usually forgiving enough for a re-do. Knit on!
