Seasons

Thanksgiving Prep

Maybe I’m less observant than the average person but I never thought much about the seasons. Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer . . they come around like clockwork. Leaf changes, sweaters, then coats, then daffodils . . then HOT! Maybe because we’re outside so much more here but each season nowadays seems to come with it’s own set of chores and challenges.

Fall here means cleaning out the spent summer garden growth. After the hard freeze Friday and Saturday nights, yesterday was warm and beautiful but it was time get the plants out of the garden that had frozen back.  I had forgotten that the cilantro does not freeze so I was happy to see it all perky out in the garden. I think it’s funny how some plants just melt into a pile of mush with the first freeze and plants like kale, chard, lettuce, cilantro .. they never miss a beat.

Garlic and onions should have been planted in October but they weren’t! Vince tilled up the spots where I wanted to plant garlic and onions and he helped me get those planted.

I didn’t plant as many as I planted last year so everything past the PVC pipe can be used for something else. Maybe I’ll plant more kale. We use a lot of that.

This is the area where the squash and beans were. Not sure what I’ll plant there but I’ll do a little research and see what I can plant this late . . maybe beets, carrots, spinach, kale . . that’s about it probably.

For the most part, grasshopper season is now over .. for a few short months . . and for that, I am very thankful.

This made me think of the verse about a season for …..
I must go look that up.
I hope you will have all your blogs saved for your granddaughter.
She will treasure the daily entries on how Granny’s life was.
