Everywhere I’ve ever lived, people say “If you don’t like the weather now, wait 5 minutes and it will change” but honestly, it’s so true here. Yesterday we were out in short sleeves and flip flops. Today it’s cold and extremely windy.
Courtesy of Accuweather, those are snowflakes! I forget how windy it can get out here where there are such wide open spaces. Almost all the houses out here have metal roofs because of the wind, as well as fire danger. I’m not sure shingles would ever stay on in this wind.
Even though in a few days we’ll be back up into the 60’s or warmer, all the green loofa has to be cut before the freeze tonight. All the big chicken watering buckets have to be drained and put inside. Which means . . why am I sitting here in the nice warm house when there’s so much to do outside?

Thank Goodness I did most of the empty and cover up stuff and getting the heaters plugged in, in the two greenhouses. I did that Thursday when the weather was so beautiful. Today I did cover the water faucets. They have wrap around insulation but a bucket over is a help too.
It is 60 here in Elgin with gusts up to 22 miles per hour.

Today was pretty nice here, sunny and no wind. We have had plenty of really crazy wind in the last week though and yesterday we got 4 or 5 inches of snow. Area schools either had a full snow day or let out be 1 or 1:30. Winter is here! It’s the wind I hate and as long as it isn’t blowing I can handle just about any of the rest of it.

You really NEED to watch the weather there! We watch, but just to check whether it’s a shorts and sandals day or jeans and shoes!
And the wind…a front came through here the other night. As I sat listening to the front door trying to open, and the bedroom window rattling, I was grateful that “wind” is another thing we don’t have to often deal with!
