Addie has decided she wants to learn to knit so Nicole got some really big needles and she’s been helping Addie knit. She doesn’t sit and knit long but any time she wants to practice, Nicole stops and helps her.
Addie also decided that she wanted her mom to knit her some socks. The Opal yarn wears so well, can be machine washed and is fairly inexpensive and I often buy it when it’s on sale so I’m sending the above skeins to Nicole for making socks.
Four skeins . . out of my stash! 🙂

My grand-daughter started at age 5. Her mother used the same technique as Nicole, knitting in bits of time, whenever GD was interested.

Hmm.. were they purchases from the great Opal Socktoberfest KAL? 🙂 I just got my loom out today and got a project going on it so that should help out my “stash used” numbers in the not too distant future.

So happy to hear Addie is interested in knitting. I would love to knit a pair of socks.
Any suggestions for a basic pattern to start?

I love Opal yarns! One of my first pair of socks I made was out of the color way on the far left. Still one of my favorite pairs.

Judy, we all already knew you’re a wonderful grandmother. And now you’re giving us even more evidence of what a terrific mother Nicole is. Addie is one lucky little girl!

well! You can tell how much you love someone when you gift things from the STASH!!
I thought of you this weekend as I got my yearly wool fix from a lovely yarn shop in Cambria CA. I need to touch that yarn..and I went back the 2nd day for another purchase! EEK! I think I need to amp up my knitting speed!

It’s wonderful that Addie wants to learn to knit! My Mom taught me to knit mittens when I was 5 – and 60+ years later – I am still knitting. Socks are my favorite knitting project – and my friends might be tired of being gifted hand knitted socks!

My Mom tells the story of learning to knit socks at age 6. Being taught by her older brother who would have been 10. Both of them sitting under the dining room table to knit!

Great sock yarn for a little girl’s socks. I want to see a picture of Addie knitting. I’m picturing needles bigger than she is. LOL
