Yesterday, I don’t know what I was looking for . . you know how one thing on the internet leads to another thing and first thing you know, you’ve spent the whole day on the internet . . does that happen to you? It happens to me. And, yesterday I came across a recipe for Lemon, Ginger & Honey elixir. It was touted as a relief from colds, sore throats, flu . . who knows if it really works but it sounded good and I had just picked lemons and knew there was ginger I could dig and use.
I’m rarely sick but I remember one time in Louisiana when I thought I was going to die from a sore throat. My friend since first grade, Sarah, came over in the middle of the night and brought popsicles and dill pickles, which she was sure would solve my problems. I guess it worked . . I lived! 🙂
Anything that promises to relieve a sore throat is something I’m willing to try.
Simply, layer sliced lemons and sliced ginger in a Mason jar, fill the jar with honey, and refrigerate. Supposedly it will keep for a long time. When you feel like you need it . . scratchy throat, sniffles, achy joints . . or you just plain want some . . stir a couple of teaspoons of the honey into a cup of hot water and you have Lemon, Ginger, Honey Tea.
Yes, I’ll be the first to admit that I need to get a life but I had more fun watching the air bubbles come up through the honey.
You can bet I’m not going to wait til I’m sick before I try some of this. I’ll give it a few weeks to develop the flavors but I can hardly wait to try it.

I thought you were writing about me…..I call it happy wandering.
I made this last winter when we were on the vicious cycle of colds and sore throats. It works great! Hot tea with honey and once in a while a shot of the good stuff!!!
I wonder how it would taste on Blue Bell. 😉

Too funny..I have a jar of that in my fridge but in addition to the lemon and honey there were essential oils in there as well for same reason (mighta been the ginger oil).

Or… put some of the syrup in a glass and fill with club soda. I usually buy vanilla yogurt and then add my own flavors. So this syrup would also be good in yogurt.

I love how the old time remedies are becoming new again! Probably drives the drug companies nuts but they are better for us and did work for earlier generations!!

That’s ok Judy. Frank left his temperature go home and I spent the day shooting temperatures of everything from the dogs, to the birds on the feeder and the different colors of my Kona stash……….

I made so much of this two years ago that I still have a jar in my fridge. It keeps so long and works so well. Actually, this is my tea of choice all winter long!

This sounded so good I made it right away and did NOT wait a few weeks to try it. It’s delicious! Thank you for sharing the idea!

Thanks, Judy! Just in time for my husband’s sore throat…! He arrived home, sick, before 11 Friday morning. I made almost two quarts, using some of our Meyer lemons. The jars look so pretty. And the recipe is tasty. My hubby’s had three cups so far.
Thanks for telling us about it. I’ll have to make more before long.
