We had rain predicted for Wednesday through Saturday. Radar looks like north of us . . Abilene into Fort Worth/Dallas . . has had lots of rain and it rained a bit towards town but we didn’t much more than a few drops til today. When I went out with the dogs just before daylight, I didn’t see any stars so I knew it was cloudy and that gave me hope.
By the time it was daylight enough to let the chickens out, it was raining . . more of a steady drizzle than real rain. I didn’t realize it til I opened the door to go out and I stepped back to go get a rain jacket or umbrella and then I said NO . . I want to feel the rain. While I was out making my rounds, the rain picked up and I came in dripping wet – hair dripping in my eyes, shirt soaked, jeans wet almost up to my knees. It felt good!
We have puddles! We so rarely have puddles!
The old saying “You never miss the water til the well runs dry” is so true. When I came in this morning, went to the bathroom to dry my hair, I remembered when I was in college and it seemed like miles between the buildings on campus and in southwest Louisiana, I would have sworn back then that it rained every day. My hair was long and the more humidity there was, the bigger my hair got. Back then I detested the rain. Nowadays I am delighted to see even the smallest chance of rain in our forecast.
It’s been so dry here and we’ve had such a high risk of fire that we haven’t even been grilling on the patio so just this little bit of rain will at least make it safe for us to grill, though there’s lots of dead vegetation out there so we’ll still have to be careful what we do in the woods. I haven’t wanted to take the RTV out because if the engine/exhaust get warm enough and then I stop over dead weeds, that could cause a fire. This drought interferes with me enjoying my solitude out in the woods.
We still have the rest of today and tomorrow when we can get more rain, and there’s some in the forecast towards the end of next week so I’m hoping we’ll get more but no matter what we get, I’m thankful for what we’ve received so far.

Hate to tell you this but it looks like a LOT more is headed your way.

Bring it on. There isn’t as much predicted for us as for some areas due to Hurricane Patricia. It looks like max for us is about 4″ through Sunday but we could easily use 6 – 8″ without any problems.

It’s been raining here too. We were getting pretty dry and with harvest going full blast there have been a few field & machinery fires. Maybe you will get more rain as the big hurricane of the Pacific coast of Mexico moves inland. It sounds BAD. I’m afraid people will die in that one.

Yes, Hurricane Patricia looks pretty scary. For some reason, they don’t have us predicted to get a lot of rain from that system. Looks like we could still get about 4″ and so far, we haven’t had even enough to really measure in the rain gauge. The Dallas area has had a lot of rain this morning but it missed us . . again!
