Friday evening I finished up spinning everything I was going to spin before heading back down near Austin for the second spinning class. The rented wheel was securely strapped in, ready to safely ride back to her shop.
I could have brought it home again this week but I don’t think there’s any way I can make it back for the third class.
For three hours I used the Majacraft Rose. Week #1, I fell in love with that wheel but after getting a bit better with my spinning, I’m head over heels in love with that one now. I had planned to get the Schacht Ladybug, which is about half the price of the Rose. Price isn’t a determining factor, but yet it is. I want a wheel that I can take outside and sit on the porch and spin. I want a wheel I can take to MO and teach Nicole to spin, and some day, teach Addie to spin. I want a wheel that wherever I go for more than a couple of days, I can take it with me if I’d like to. I see myself taking a $600 wheel to do those things way more often than I’d take a $1,300 wheel.
I told Vince . . it’s like the difference in driving the 14 year old Honda CRV or driving the 8 year old Toyota Highlander. The Highlander has all the bells and whistles, is quiet, heated leather seats, etc. The Honda – bare bones. The Honda gets us where we need to go but it’s a lot more enjoyable going in the Highlander.
As much as I want the Rose, I think I’ll always wish for a lower end wheel just for times when I’m doing things I might not want to do with a higher end wheel.
It’s funny because there were three of us in the class and all three of us fell in love with different wheels and we were all pretty devoted to the wheel we chose.
At this minute, I think I’m going to go with the Ladybug, then after a few months of spinning, if I still want the Rose, and I’m loving spinning, I’ll add the Rose to the collection. Who knows what I’ll think tomorrow!

I see a new room with a collection of wheels and fiber. It just happens in the middle of the night while you are sleeping.

The Ladybug is a pretty wheel, but there is nothing wrong with multiple wheels!

Wise choice. You can always add the more expensive one later, but what if you buy it first and then it just sits in a corner 90% of the time? I like your reasons for going with the Ladybug – it’s portability and the comfort of doing that with a less-expensive wheel.
