As I’ve shared before, Eat, Sleep, Knit has 12 Knit Alongs for us to do in 2015, along with about a million “badge” challenges. Of course, I want to get them all done, and earn the maximum yardage for all the Knit Alongs.
For most Knit Alongs, I’ve not had any trouble coming up with a plan but for the “New to You” KAL, I have truly struggled. I’ve emailed the ESK girls so many times about my questions, I’m sure they say bad words when they see an email from me.
We can do multiple projects to reach the maximum yardage. For the New to You KAL, if we make something over 650 yards, we get 1000 yards. Also, all yarn has to be from ESK.
My first plan was to do Joker and the Thief. There’s a stitch in there I’ve never done. I think it’s called Indian Cross Stitch. I ordered the yarns but the lightest one was just too tan for the other colors. I had the perfect yarn but it came from Madelinetosh and ESK doesn’t carry that color . . because it’s a discontinued color. I ordered Natural, thinking I could dye the yarn but then talked myself out of that.
Next plan was to make Sugar Plum Cardi for Addie. It’s knitted in the round and then “steeked”. I’ve never done that. I have the yarn and it came from ESK. Then I talked myself out of that.
There were other things that I was going to do and then decided against. Here’s what I decided to do:
Project #1: Entrelac – I’ve never done that. My plan was to make this Entrelac Satchel. Then, being the crazy girl that I am, I decided to make it a bit wider. Then I liked it so much I decided to make it a scarf and then I realized I would have to have more yarn so I went back to the satchel idea. This is a fun project and I love the entrelac.
I’m going to make another panel, sew them together, add a lining and a zipper . . that’s the plan and it should use about 250 to 300 yards.
Project #2: Anemone Hat – Even if you aren’t a knitter, take a look at this hat! It is adorable. New to me will be those little squiggly things. I want to make one for Nicole, Addie, me and maybe Nicole’s mom. One adult had should use 250 to 300 yards.
Project #3: Cadeautje – These slippers use thrums . . which I’ve never done! These should use about 250 yards.
If I get all three of those projects done, that will give me the maximum yardage for the New to You KAL.
So much to do . . so little time!

Judy, make sure you report on the slippers. I’ve always been intrigued by thrums but never thought about putting them in slippers! Just knew that I didn’t need thrummed mittens in Texas. Such a great idea. And Ysolda is a marvelous designer.
And Cat Bordhi is my idol. She is amazing.

I got in last night about 11 pm from a trip to OKC. I ventured north to the Quiltworks Quilt Shop to hear Carrie Nelson present a talk and trunk show. It was great and it was nice to meet her and share chocolate and her quilts. She is teaching classes this wknd in OKC. Down the road, about 2 miles, is a great knit shop, Gourmet Yarns. I went there first to scope out yarns for a coming first grandchild so I could order later when we knew the gender. Got to fondle all the bamboos, cotton, Malabrigo and whatever. I made some choices for myself. As I placed my goods in the trunk I received a call from my kiddos who were checking on my success in driving to OKC for the first time alone, but also they had the results of their blood work. I turned right around and went back into the yarn show. Came home with a big bag of blue yarn for a layette and baby afghan. Timing was so perfect. Then I went and listened to Carrie tell us all about her job transition to working at Moda in Dallas and her many quilts. Perfect evening! Can’t wait to see and hear about your entrelac. That is so interesting, would love to know how its done. Good luck with your projects.

All great looking projects – you’ll be learning lots of new stuff. What yarn are you using for your entrelac? Love the colors in it. I, too, love the hat. I had been contemplating who to make it for and I think my sister, who is always out walking the dog might need one this winter to keep her warm. 😉

I’ve never done KALs – so many other projects to start and/or finish but I decided to do Laura Aylor’s End of Summer Mystery KAL. Loving it – I think it’s the mystery part that keeps me going on the same project. I have a terrible habit of flitting from one project to another – seems like once I see how the yarn/pattern is going to look I can’t wait to start something else! Entralac is on my ‘to do’ list so I’m looking forward to seeing your project finished. I’ve never done steeking – the idea of cutting the knitting scares the crap out of me.
