My favorite flour is not easy to find and when I find it, I buy all I can find. This time . . it was 50 pounds of Wheat Montana flour.
The Walmarts in my area don’t carry this and even the Walmarts in the area surrounding Nevada don’t carry it. The Walmart in Nevada is the only place I can ever find Wheat Montana flour.
I’ve taken an empty bag to my local Walmart and asked them to get it but they say it isn’t in their distribution center so I’m out of luck. I’m ok using a couple of other flours but Wheat Montana has been my favorite for several years and I sure am happy to have a little supply of it .. while it lasts.

We love the Wheat Montana High Fiber Sunflower Seed and Flax bread, but can only get it in Montana or mail order. Sometimes as a treat, we’ll order 4 or 5 loaves and freeze it. It still doesn’t last long enough for freezing to hurt it! And it can cost as much as some specialty breads in the Dallas area.

I’m curious about what makes this flour so special to you. I’ve used King Arthur Flour exclusively for years. I find that it’s consistancy and the results I get make it worth the extra cost. They have a wide range of flours, I use mostly their AP unbleached and the white whole wheat.

We live about 85 miles from Wheat Montana–want me to box some up and ship it to you?? Don’t know how the prices compare but Amazon sells Wheat Montana flour.
Judy Laquidara says
Amazons price isn’t bad – about $56 for 8 bags but the shipping is also $56 and that makes it outrageously expensive.

Amazon sells it. You can get it at the Walmarts in Colorado as well. I love it. It is so light.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, but with shipping, it’s about $113 for 8 – 5 pound bags and I can buy King Arthur locally for way less than that.

I had noticed Wheat Montana sacks in a blog and wondered where you got it. I live in Wyoming and it is available most stores here and in Utah since we are close. My bread baking son has convinced me that it is the best.

Judy ~ I like & use King Arthur flour. It’s readily available in my area. I enjoy baking very much and am always open for better ingredients. I don’t think I’ve seen Montana Wheat flour in my area but am wondering if I should be searching more for it? Could you please explain to me what you use it for & the benefits of it? Thank you so much. Penny in So CA

I can buy the Wheat Montana Prairie Gold and the Bronze Chief flour at my nearest Wal-Mart but I’ve never seen that all purpose flour there. It’s so strange what some Wal-Marts carry and what they don’t yet when you can walk into one somewhere else and never know you’re not in your usual one if you only go by the layout of the store. I remember walking into one in LeMars, IA a number of years ago and it was just like the one nearest me used to be before they built the big new one. I felt like I was home! 🙂

I’m in Kalispell, MT, and stopped at the Wheat Montana bakery today. I’d never heard of them before, and now hear I read of it in your blog. Maybe I should take a bag home with me.
